I am in agreement with you also and a three stranded chord is not easily broken !

  3. Why hasnt it been torn down yet? .... sounds like the demo hit a snag, so its still available?

  4. There is one of these type of service stations in a backyard by my house. The story I heard was it was taken a part and reassembled in the backyard as a shop. It is totally cool,

  9. One or two guys with ladders and tools could have numbered, photographed, and removed all the panels from the building in a couple of days. Of course, it would cost money to hire that done.

I'm thinking outside the box here. What about contacting Famosa Race Way. Blake has done a ton of up-grades to the property. Maybe if the structure was donated to the race way to be used as office space or whatever is need you could find a partner to help with the move. Just a thought, good luck.

  11. I'm late to the party just reading this story today but.. if some old hag real estate agent who is in charge of this deal kept changing her mind I certainly wouldn't be showing up with a truck load of guys with tools. She would have the whole lot of them arrested for trespassing and never think twice about it. Without a written contract you have nothing.

  12. Wonder if contacting Dollar General Corp about it would get you
anywhere?? If they have already purchased the property, then
they are the current owners and should have the final say. They
probably have a Real Estate department to handle property matters....
(We have a Dollar General in every little town around here, and they
    do a good business.)

I was out of town for a week picking up a car body, when I returned I drove by the property and it is just dirt now (it could've happened before then, I hadn't been by there for a while). I've dealt with people before that said I could have something then changed their mind or tried to use what they were "giving" me as some leverage tool to get something else. I agree with a couple of you guys that if they can't put it in writing then it's probably not real. I don't know if the building was leveled or if it got moved. But I did all that I knew to do and when it became clear I was spinning my wheels, I realized if it is meant to be it will happen, if not then something better is on the way. i appreciate all the suggestions and advice and there's probably some legal channels that could have been taken and I could have raised a big stink about it and in years past when the county was making unfriendly legislation concerning old cars in people's back yards-i did that and went to bat on behalf of many folks who would have essentially gotten bullied out of their collections of "junk" and in the end the county did what they wanted and many of the folks I was trying to help were ungrateful to say the least. Anyway It's a bummer to see cool old historical buildings leveled or ruined but I guess it happens everyday.

On a brighter note, It's funny and ironic, because on my way back from picking up the body I bought, I traveled on a lot of the old route 66 from St Louis MO to Flagstaff AZ and there are old gas stations on every block of the old route... many have been repurposed, some are just storage some are falling down, and some sections have been preserved quite well and/or restored. You can see for sure how things dried up for certain areas once the interstate bypassed them. Met a couple car guys along the way and saw some neat stuff-definitely want to go back and get more pics and do more exploring. Wish I had some better news for you guys on the Gas Station I thought I was getting-all I can say for sure is it's not where it used to be anymore-hopefully someone got it and will save it. I guess there will be a new Dollar General there very soon, speaking of Dollar General, they just pushed out the oldest and coolest market we had in town (Green Frog Market) out of the location it's been in since 1946-not sure what to think about that, you can see a photo here (2nd picture) http://greenfrogmarket.com/History.html

You know, I'm all for progress, but for historical buffs and for those who like to preserve vintage automobiles, motorcycles, architecture, antiques and other things of ol'... "progress" sure doesn't seem to work in our favor, does it?

As I drove along a few sections of Route 66 where the buildings were still in decent shape but appeared to be just boarded up-in the back of my mind I thought, How cool would it be if a bunch of car guys went in and bought up many of these buildings in a small town, restored them and made it theirs... it could be something really cool, un fortunately many of these sections of road seemed to be in the middle of nowhere... haha. :) Yeah, they say that I'm a dreamer....haha. :) My dream will happen someday, if not here then somewhere better. Short Answer: It's in God's hands! ;)
