LOL, I don't think Glamis is on the beach... I always liked those water pumpers, but they died out when the VW buggies came in.
Years ago there were sand drags in the Potero Creek wash near San Jacinto, CA Edit: Sand drags in the San Jacinto, CA area are operated by the SoCal Sand Drag ***ociation (SCSDA), which traditionally hosts high-octane 300-foot dirt and sand racing events for everything from youth ATVs to 140MPH Top Alcohol dragsters. While SCSDA previously held major events at the Soboba Casino Motor Complex in San Jacinto, their primary Southern California racing home is currently located about 40 miles west at the Lake Elsinore Raceway (20700 Cereal Street, Lake Elsinore, CA)
Years ago we used to go to a weekend rod run at the Benton County fairgrounds in Kennewick wa every labor day weekend and a sand drag group had their races on the horse track where they laid down a layer of sand on the track for maybe 300 ft. TROG is 1/8 mile or there abouts but A shorter track probably wouldn't be and issue with vintage engine rigs.
I'm a youngin' of 60 here, but I first saw those wild rails/water pumpers literally in the opening credits to "The Pink Panther Show"! I have to wonder how many Gen X got car fever from that opening AND other period films?!
If anyone gets near Silver Lake Sand Dunes in northern Mi. Check out Mac Woods dune rides. Inside and outside the buildings are some amazing historical pictures and even dune vehicles that look a lot like that video. Growing up around here we still rip the dunes whenever we get a chance in off topic High horsepower machines, so much fun
Crewed on a friend's 'truck' when he changed it from a street truck to a mud bogger, then to a sand racer where I helped. Lots of good memories, but not at the beach. He ran the sand in Yuma, Primm and another track at a casino in the southern corner of Nevada. Picture wouldn't fit here, but it was 'interesting'. Ended up building a dedicated drag car out of the parts.
