im looking for pics of pre 32 cars that used straight eights I have found 2 one roadster newly built with a packard motor i did not care for and i have found one older pic with a straight eight in a maodel a with a hood i realy liked if any of you have more please post them i am really trying to figure out how the peportions of such a long power plant in front of my essex sedan is going to look thank you
Hey man, I found this but it is a straight 6 but I figured it would give you an idea. I have a friend that has a straight 8 in his nash roadster and that thing is a beast. I found this pic in some old threads on here, you might try to get a hold of the guy if you like the look or maybe to get some more pics.
I don't think we are talking about the same nash roadster. He isn't on the hamb, but next time I see him I will try to get a pic for ya. Good luck finding some, im not having any luck!
it's not really i don't care for it but that i am looking for stuff with more of a body behind it then just like a cab. just a cab makes a lot of sense to keep the length down and lighter for racing but i'm looking a building a full size sedan with the eight out front. but i really do like to see all of them i tierd of every one i know trying to talk me in to a small block.
kustom, I say its your car so screw the sbc and dare to be different with the straight 8 and tell everyone to shut up!
To much induction on the engine to fit under a hood. Hoods long enough to cover the engine just dont look right unless on a full fendered car that is at least 17 foot long with a long wheel base, Worked to hard to cover the engine any way. Oil pan is 5 1/2" from the gound and has never hit the pavement even in the worst drive ways. The car is what I had to build and thats it. I know not every one likes it but thats how it is ya know, some times one mans car is not for another. So no big deal, For all I know I would not like what you have but thats how it works. No law saying you have to like anything at least till next month.
i wasn't trashing your car my questions are all worries i have on my own build as to weather or not i can channel the car and still run a hood as you know they are tall motors and makes things you would do if you were running a sbc a bit different.i want to run a hood no sides but was worried about setting the motor to low. do you have any threads posted on your build i am supprised that you could get it so low. thank you for the information.
I have both a Packard flathead straight 8 and a Buick 248/263 straight 8 laying around, if you want I can do some measurements for you and give you an idea of size for each.. let me know if that info would be helpful to you plans. Rob
No pictures, but I have a 320 Buick with the factory compound carbs. The Buick is long & tall. 35" from the oil pan to the top of a carb, no air cleaner. About 41" from the bellhousing flange to the waterpump flange. IF you need any more measurements, just ask. I hope you "study" Hot Rod Packards build! I saw it at Bonneville last year, it is an incredible car. Hot Rod Packard has a lot of pictures posted here. When I finally put my 320 Buick in a Model A, I want to see it myself, I don't want to cover it up. It looks too good to cover up! Just an opinion, good luck. Lucky667
i have a buick motor now a 52 and have measured it i'm going to extend the frame 14" to fit it i just wanted to see what other guys have come up with i just fear looking unperportioned.
Didn't your Essex's big brother Hudson have a straight 8 available? OR was it just a much bigger 6 than the Essex engine? What year is your Essex anyway?
mine is a 29 sedan and the motor was built by my great uncle who past a couple years ago I just really want to use it.
