I was going to have my truck pinstriped last summer at KKOA in Salina. I decided to buy some supplies and give it a shot. After a couple of attempts i am starting to get the hang of it. I bought a Mack and a Kafka brush and must say the Kafka is easier for me to use. I have been practicing on glass with a paper grid underneath. Finally got the nerve to try a couple on the inside of my truck hood and an old rusty door. Got my pattern ideas from the net. Love the old style red and white striping. I think with practice i could control my brush better but i am pretty happy with it. Here are my attempts. What do you think?
Nice work defiantly on your way I'm doing the same with metal work slowly trying to teach myself you know the old saying practice makes perfect Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Has anyone used a projector to put a pattern on the hood you can trace over? I'm going to do my first stripe job next year & I seriously want to try this. BTW Stew, those are lovely.
Practice makes perfect, but then people tell you nobodys perfect. Thats why I don't even try. The stripping looks good, keep working at it. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I did the same thing .I want to pinstripe my car so I bought some brushes and paint .I have about 20 hrs of practice into it or so . I gotta say that it is harder than it looks ! I'm no where near ready to try on my car.... Looks great keep at it!
I learned to stripe 50 years ago and I'm still learning. It never stops. My older brother is also a striper for close to 60 years and I remember him advising someone who asked how long it takes to learn... "I can teach you in about 10 minutes but it'll take the rest of your life to practice" You're well on the way. Keep practicing
Thanks for the positive remarks. Got a new book today written by Herb Martinez. Almost read the whole thing this evening. Has some good history as well as techniques and tricks. Can't wait to try some of them out. Looks like i need some more supplies..$$$$
Looks good! I've been pinstriping for about a year, keep practicing and you will have people lining up at your house wanting stuff done!! Haha keep at it No brains, no headaches -Ed Roth
Pinstriping is directly related to how much time you spend practicing. If you spend hours and hours per week you can get to be pretty decent at it. The main thing is to be your own worst critic. Thats the only way you will get better. It is a lot harder than it looks!
Oh GREAT. Now you'll be buying tons of stuff, books, brushes, paint, beer. Next thing you know all kinds of weirdos will be pestering you wanting striping done. Car shows will have whispers of,"Thats the guy who did my car". You'll have to quit your day job, get famous in car circles and next thing you know, YOURE A LEGEND. I think you have the knack.
I always thought about it myself. Glad you did something about it. Looks good. Practice makes perfect.
