My son about a year ago practicing his shifting skills. He loves to go to daddy's clubhouse (aka. the garage) with me whenever he can. Just had our 2nd boy and I hope he enjoys it just as much. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1451586007.139027.jpg

I must admit that being a father is the greatest joy of my life...yes even above building hot rods. I am blessed to have three daughters ranging in ages from 15 to 5. All three of them spend quality time with their dear old dad working on the various projects that come in and out of the garage. Whether it be our not so nice 47 Ford driver or the 37 Plymouth truck they have been instrumental part in all of these projects. Everything from picking paint colors to assisting in engine assembly. Life can be funny at times. Even though I am at the young age of 38, I can now understand how my uncle and grandfather felt when I was nipping at their heels in the garages growing up. Myself being the third generation of hot rodder in the family, it feels good to know that the tradition will hopefully continue and will be in good hands. Quick story; One way to know your children are hot rodders is when you get pulled into a parent teacher conference when they are in elementary school. When my oldest daughter was in kindergarten, she was in love with woodie wagons. One day at school she was coloring at her desk while singing "Old Mcdonald". We all know the nursery rhyme of Old Mcdonald had a farm... Well, as she was singing a verse of this song, she decided to add "Old Mcdonald had woodie........ei,ei,oh." Well, lets just say the teacher did not take to kindly to her rendition of the famous nursery rhyme. It was at that point my oldest daughter tried to explain she was talking about a car. The young teacher had no idea what a woodie wagon was or even heard of the term. It was at this point I received a call at work and had to make a guest appearance. Fortunately all went well and I brought photographic proof that woodies do exist and she was off the hook. Like I said it is good to be a dad.

Here's her daughter sitting in the same car last week. Grandkids are fun too! She has that devilish look in her eyes! I think she would have done some burn outs had I not been there :)

  5. Starting to think my 2 year old grandson is a car guy. He loves to go out in the garage with me. First thing he wants to do is sit in the old Chevy and pretend he's driving. Christmas day was warm enough here to take family for a ride. Everyone got one but he got 3 and didn't want to get out of the car! DSC02076a.jpg

Nothing beats passing on your passion to your son like the expression on his face after his first pass in an open cockpit car, priceless IMG_4284.JPG IMG_4095.JPG
