Had a fun day this sat. now that I'm back rolling, well most of it.
Two car shows today {sat 4/14/18} ,one AM 5 miles from home Cars an Coffey,n one PM,plus super nice weather all day.
AM show was good turn out an around 250 cars,we had 7 hotrods come an 5 of us got to park together. Things as planned, tell got ready to head to next show about 40 miles away. My rods battery desided too retire from the living. Tryed jump, but poor at best try,so opened the battery box under seat too hook on bat poles/still poor= battery had shorted a call an was now total junk ! %$#. Left my 28 hotrod right there with one Rosh an his 23T,as another took me an junk battery in Mark's 32roadster off to buy new bat. Found right new one after about an hr. hunt and $100 *%$* ,put it in rod. All good now,but Rosh is upset about time gone an heads home early an two other hotrods did same. By the time we got moving again,we down too just me an Mark too the PM "REDLANDS Blue's and BBQ",free show great sounds good BBQ. Was about 25 show cars n 6 MC,lot of nice shade trees an some breez, fan's came out for this,my guess is 2000+ or so. Over all,got some miles in an fun drive.

First sat. in a few weeks now we don't have lots of rain in Miami,so was planning on a run to a car show about 20 miles away! Didn't make it passed the 2 mile mark, water spray on the windshield ! But turned out it was not raining! My weld on my homemade "Y" water conector from rad. hose too each head, desided to show me a pin hole on top of "Y",this after it has worked fine for like 5 years. Yes,back when I made the thing,I had put PSI into it ,and checked with soap out side for bubbles. My guess is a little rust got to a thin spot I didn't know about. Got to addmitt,I like it when this stuff happens close to home,an can just run back to the garage. Will clean, reweld n paint it sunday,so test run sunday afternoon, fun fun. 001 (4).JPG Leak is hiding in pic behind oilcap !

Made a prob. all by may self, was at a show enjoying Fathers Day last weekend, remeber bumping bottom/oilpan on tiny bad one lane road going in and out of were we were asked to park,an then leving too bang,,but didn't think much of it { I have a 1/8in. steel skid plate on bottom of oilpan for many years}, But this AM,there a puddle of oil under my hotrod, not big ,but enough, nuts. Jack my baby up an sure enough oilpan plug got hit. Odd it's not lowist point, but the bump/hole in road must of been just right. Tryed to fix by playing with plug an gaskits=no plug fitting is Mashed up an pan cracked along lower edge of fitting. Grandplan is to clean all an weld a new nut to pan,for new plug=fix crack an plug n fitting at the sametime. Now to hunt my many cans of crap for just the right nut an bolt! 9 days later,I' m feeling old, took that long for me too fix a oilpan leak, but only played fixy for 1 to 2 hrs a day. Would had that done in one day 20years ago. Good is I'm ready to ride this weekend if we're blessed with sunshine.
Had to pull front cross{EZ job/designed too come out EZ by me,then remove oilpan. Turned out pan crack was more then just right at plug, ran out away from plug a short way. Welded it up with new nut an plug.
Tested fix with brake clean <<<very thin and will run out of smallist leak=no leak now,so replaced all + new oil n zink add. Ready to go ! My old crossmember design worked again/ photo from last restore a few years back I did,pan drops out, with out motor or mounts being played with at all. No one sees this under there, but I cleaned ,repolished it anyway. IMAG0929.jpg

That's really thinking ahead Dana:cool: I try to think about future need to disassemble for repairs when I construct also.

Dana, I'm only saying this because I learned the hard way (I was stupid), but welding and CHLORINATED brake clean are a no no. When you heat that stuff up you create chlorine gas, which is not a desirable breathing medium. I'm sure many here already know this, including you, but I'm just saying it so a reader doesn't do the same thing I did!

YES,that is 100% right Tim ,an can be really bad. I only used it to check if there was a leak after the repair{no leak}. Thanks for adding that,I should have, but being I did it later, didn't think of doing so. Thanks for the note to others, good call !

Good reminder, Tim. For me, the easy solution to that, is to only buy non-clorinated brake-clean. There are a couple of good ones out there, that aren't too expensive n work as well as can be expected. FWIW. Dana, hope your "opportunities to upgrade" have come to an end. :D .

All we have here is non-chlorinated brake cleaner, the good stuff is not available, and hasn't been for a couple of decades.

That’s okay with me , I’ll make do without the “good stuff “.

Us and our kids and their kids will live longer healthier lives because of the many different kinds of “good stuff “ we can no longer get our grubby hands on.

That's the claim. Me, I think we were better off when the Cuyahoga had an octane rating.

Take a good look at the data on the effects of tetraethyl lead on people and the environment you might change your mind.

I’m not an environmentalist by any means but there’s no sense ignoring the obvious.

4th of July show for the passed 21 years in Miami Springs{its always on the 3dr.anyway},good turn out again. I'd guess 250 plus show cars all decked out in red white an blue.
Had fun but took a hr. longer then planned to get there! Rod stopped at a red light,an would not restart! Coil on fire wall was hotter then motor. Push it off the road in a gas Shell station. There was zreo spark from coil wire! A block away was autoparts store,an got a new coil in case, added that an cleaned the points, now week week spark, cleaned points again and dis. point plate ground wire. Zooom zoom back in bizz, can go on to show. No one wants too look at me working on points,so something better to see that stopped by to ask what you guys doing?? The driver of the roadster in the lead did a good job on timing the passage thru traffic lights, seemed to time his passage thru at the start of a green so that all that were following got thru also.
Frequently when I'm in a caravan like that, the lead 2 or 3 cars get thru and the rest get stopped by a red and have to wait till the light cycles thru again, and the lead cars are way down the road.

Yes,we been having fun for many years,Mark Klein is red 32,he leads the best, nearly every one has had a turn at it. A few years back we even had a 8pack of cheep Walky-Talkys,but they only lasted about 20 runs, cool but if there is a next time with that game,a little higher cost is well blown.
