at least that's what we called them. chrome tail pipes with flared ends. does anyone stil make them ? thanks!
If you're talking about the ones about 4 feet long, we called them "Scavenger Pipes". In the early '60's, they were the way to go; run a big rake and modify the exhaust system so the ran under the rear axle and you were one of the "Cool Guys".
Tubman, yeah I was cool with a pair under the axle of my '47 Ford tudor back in '61 until the muffler and the scavenger pipe on one side fell off cruising the girls at the local soda shop and I ran over it! Still can hear the laughter as I had to jump out, wrestle the hot metal into my trunk and depart! Ah the memories of my misspent youth.
These people call them "bugle tips" and offer in SS, you could add pipe to make length you want. http://stainlesssteelmufflers.com/tips.htm more on topic, here's an old 2004 thread that may help. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/scavenger-pipes.33004/
Back in the day, everybody had a set. Most of them lived in a corner of the garage because, done right, they were not a simple bolt-on.
