Planning on building a Belly Tank for Speed Week 2015. Live in Sacramento and am in need of info regarding this type of build. If you are willing to share your build or expertise I would greatly appreciate.

BTW. Just got my SCTA rule book yesterday!!!

Try going over to landracing.com. Plenty of help there, especially Wayno or as his avatar is "Elmo Rodge" He has a sweet tank he ran last year for the first time and loved it!

Plan on spending days on the computer reading through the forums, here and the landracing.com. There are a bunch, just start searching. You can go nostalgic or really after a record. Look up Old Crow, http://vonwelker.com/bellytank-build/, http://www.landracing.com/forum/index.php/topic,8285.0.htmlk for starters. (That last one has some great info on the track widths and caster). I've been saving pictures and build ideas for the last two years for when I eventually get to building a tank.

  4. I started this in 2010 and did visited ElMo new years weekend dec 2012.

the scta rule book is a guide for safety and cl***ification.

building a tank is a lesson in packaging, it really gets small when trying to place all the necessary items.

This is exactly correct. Plan ahead as much as possible and expect frustrating surprises.
We had a fairly large tank for our project. I dont know how perople fit everything in a small tank.

    It`s like building a ship in a bottle, 40` ship, 20' bottle.

if you haven't already been to the salt, come on out this year. bring a camera and take as many pictures of tanks as you can. the tanks look pretty spacious until you try and fit everything inside of them. if you don't plan it out in advance- you're going to run into issues.
if you have drawings of your design, it is not a bad idea to bring them with you to the salt. come wednesday or so the tech line thins out and it mostly just quickie inspections for cl*** changes and spin-outs. there will be plenty of techs sitting around to answer questions and help you with your design.
if you have any specific questions, let me know and i'll see what i can do to help. once you're a bit farther along i'd be happy to come to your shop and do a pre-tech.

  8. Lots of good advice, I too reccomend going to the Salt or Elmo BEFORE starting to build! There are many of us here and on Landracing.com building and that have built lakesters willing to help.

so, have you got a belly tank to start with already? if so, post some pics. have you been to Bonneville and El Mirage much? have others that will help you with build and expenses? read the rules book more than once? have you been part of a pit crew for other racers?

    did we scare him off?

too bad, there are never too many tank based lakesters.

I hope he didn't scare that easy. We have been working on a rear engine dragster style lakester for over 10 years. Plan is to come out this summer.
