I know exactly what you mean. My real job has been very busy lately, too much overtime, however; I am not complaining as I am very lucky. But, the tank should have been painted now, sitting on its wheels and in the final stages... Oh well, I'll have to burn the mid-night hour.

I'll give you guys a call soon....

Neil, the tank looks great! I'm assuming a nice bright red will be the colour of choice?

I have raced at b-ville and for 10 years at Maxton.
Your car is looking gret, but I don't think 2 gears is enough.
I tried a powerglide at Maxton,2 speeds judt didn't cut it,i then sold that glide to a guy and he went to B-ville with it in his camaro,he found the same thing,2 gears is not enough.
I would have at least 4 gears in that tranny.

  8. Neil, the tank is looking great. Hope I'll get to the salt to see you this season!

Jeff, your Diamond Deuce under the S.R,V./Continental Club corner is one of the best ever. Thanx for all the sharing, and best wishes for your assualt on the salt. ~sololobo~

Couple of more progress pic's... Axles and motor is being built as we speak. Famous Driver of the "James Boys" '33 Willys Gasser built a fantastic rad for the tanker (pictures on that later).

    See ya on the salt....

Well everything is completed as far as I can... The motor is still in the engine shop, having terrible problems with the head gasket.... Hopefully the next day or two I 'll have the motor back in my shop, leaving for the salt on August 6th.... Ummmmm....

Just a couple of progress pic's... Push rods arrived today (12 1/4" long, Wow), motor is installed minus push rods, index the cam, complete the wiring and finish the fuel lines and finally we will hear the "Jimmy Sing".....

The last pic is my very good friend who has invested countless hours in this project, however; he cannot attend this years Bonneville, as he has to hang in there for his retirement in 1 1/2 years. Mike Wilson is pictured with the welding cap...

This project would not have been completed in time, if it wasn't for Mike !

The bottom of the tanker is sitting off to the side, as we just had to push the tanker outside for its first picture, outside of the garage.....

  25. Looking good,
Any worries about the Chute catching on the push bar when it pops out, it looks a little tight.

Terrible Terrible News, for me at least. The ole' Jimmy will not come to life, cam has been indexed a couple of times, plently of spark, fuel, changed back to the orginial timing gears from my straight cut timing gears and still no life. Phase of crank/cam was within one tooth between gear sets (original obviously has timing marks)

Both engine builders are at a loss.

After I get back from Bonneville (now flying), I will be visiting an old time circle track racer some 4 hours away to pick his brain....

Roller everything, 324.6 CI, staright cut timing gears, .645 lift roller cam, 12" effective length custom push rods by Smith Brothers, 4 bolt mains, 'H' beams, head work by Mike Kirby at Sissell's, 3 - 350 cfm Holley 2 barrel carbs on a Howard intake, HEI distributor and no life ! I am pissed to say the least....

Jimmy does not want to cough, sneeze or even back fire......

    Oh well next year.....

  28. Damn Neal! So sorry to hear that! Was looking forward to it. This salt shit aint easy. I am not even trying to get a car there this year and my daily is causing me worries!

Hey, I thought vintage drag racing was difficult.... Man oh man, this Jimmy has me confused beyond belief including two engine builders who worked into the ealrly morning hours at my shop trying to get even a back fire !

8 hours sleep in three days and I am worse off now than I was three days earlier...

Oh well, I have good health and great friends who have assisted me with this project !
