Been done, i saw this one at the Nugget show last Speed Week. It is a three wheeler and powered by a Honda four cylinder bike engine. The body is a Classglass perormance P-38 item. JW
This was a famous sight in the Ballard neighborhood for years. We measured it and a flathead will fit inside of it.
Those are great JW, thanks for posting. I really like competitive-type builds , historic or contemporary Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
I know you have to have a roll cage that passes SCTA inspection, just wonder why some cars look so different, inside the tank cage vs. outside and on top cage. Bob
first pic is of me in my tank in 1980 when I went 200 mph at bonniville . Second is from 1953 when it went 203 with an Ardun on fuel.
The Body i'm getting was molded off a Classglass item so it is the same. I hope to fit the SCTA approved roll cage under the fairing so it can retain as much of a vintage look as possible. JW
by the time I got it it still had all the same features of the ardun powered time but with a buick v-6. it has since disappeared. If I could have had the ardun it would have been great.
Thats cool that that is the one the Classglass ones are taken from as it and the So-Cal tanks are my favorites. I have a model of the So-cal one and a color pic of you old one on the cover of the Bonneville records book 49-58. JW
So, probably a dumb question, but what ratios were these running? Was there any need for a quick change or simply a high gear set? Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Were they giving out something like red hats or shirts or anything when you went 200 mph back then. GREAT history.
the record was 235 or so, that ment that it was just a personal best. it was the first v-6 powered car any where to exceed 200. when it had the ardun it was the first open wheeled car to set a two way record over 200.
That's more cool !! Makes me think what i will get with mine. Warmed up post war Jeep flat head with a rear end with 3.55:1. I would like to beat my road speed of 150 mph but just doing it is it what ever i get. I have a stock 37 Willys and back in '78 i got 85 out of it with a small trailer on so i feel i may get somewhere near the 150... maybe. JW
Another nice shot from ahrf, Bill Burke. https://ahrf.com/bill-burke/ Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
