Thats eye candy right there!! Will see how i go first time and then get wilder after, just need it to be reliable first as its a long way to travel for me. JW
I tried it out for size. The seat will come forward a bit and the front axle will mount about 20'' back from the front tip. Hope to have more news soon. JW
If this one doe's any good i will rebuild it in a pre 35 Willys block, that will get it into vintage motor, in the meantime i just have to follow my dream and run a ''Willys Motor''. I have had Willys cars from '76 when i was 17, hence the thing with them. JW
Thanks for posting that, Bob, its very cool indeed but i will stick to the Flathead class..........its cheaper. It would make my 35 or 37 Willys go better though. JW
Made a small amount of progress on mine. The front mount plate that will have the spring, shocks, steering box, clutch and throttle master cylinders, also the termination point of longitudinal chassis/roll cage pipe work. Hope to make more progress over the X-mas break. JW
What are you using for front suspension, are you going to use front brakes? what steering box ? give a list of stuff and I'll see what I can dig up. Merry Christmas Terry aka dirt t
Got it all, Terry. Bug steering box, no front brakes and i have all the front end bits. Have the motor and box and rear end. Thanks Terry and all the best to you and Jenny. JW
Was easy with the template i made from MDF sheet with the inner line to follow. The lower pipe will be soon.. that will be fun. JW
Another great photo from the AHRF. Tom Beatty Lakester @ Bonneville 1959. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
From FB,”Harellson Tank” So, always one with a dumb question: where these generally run without any cooling system, or am I missing something? Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Many had a water tank that took a while to heat up, some had radiators and some had both. Mine will be a radiator, Ally Model A type at this stage and may have extra water as.well. JW
JW remember water weighs 8 lbs per gallon. On my funny car we ran alcohol with no coolant it would ice up so we would spray the the butterfly to keep it from icing up. Of course it only for a minute or so. Could you run alcohol?
It will be only pump gas,Terry. Many of these cars are so light they have trouble getting traction so a bit of useful weight would help hold it down. Plenty of places to loose some weight as long as its not safety related. JW Terry, give Jenny a hug from me Bud
Actually I believe they are called High Clearance wheels, yes used on Milk Trucks and Bread Trucks. They were used because they are 18 inch rims and could run the left over high speed Indy tires for a 'gear" change. I know Frank Oddo ran the tires, but not the wheels on his Redi Strip Special tank up until he stopped racing in the late 2010's.
That’s great to know, thanks!, I expected the ratio advantages, but the used Indy tires is completely new to me. Also new, running different size wheels front and rear. I imagine deep pockets would be needed to find a set of those wheels today. I recall they were a popular find a few years ago. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Finally made a bit of progress on mine. Tacked the spreaders on so i can now bend up the lower section of the space frame. The photo shows the frame upside down so its easy to test fit the pipe as i bend it. More progress ''soon''. JW
