I have a combo disk and 6x48 belt sander. I use the belt frequently; but only rarely use the disk.

I have both sanders and if I had to chose I'd keep the belt sander. I use the wheels to sand brackets with an inside radius. I've had the Grizzly knife sander for 8 years and it's been trouble free. A great tool for the money is a nice tool for the money. BTW I don't work for Grizzly....

Belt... But our machine has both and barely takes up any room.

I have to laugh, while I understand the reaction to the guys Kornflakes comments on the mul***ool. But in all honesty he is right though we have one on one of the bench grinders at work and its used daily a hugely convinient tool I plan to get one for home as its one of those things where when you get used to using it then no longer have it you wonder what you did without it.

    On the little green grinder

I think I need another bench grinder with a wire wheel and that belt sander attachement. Don't have a bench sander, just a couple hande held (half sheet and a 4" belt, that can be propped up and used on the bench).

Where could I find a copy of those plans?

    I've got 2 combo's, disk, belt . one 4" belt 6" disk and one 1 or 2" belt, 5" disk.
It's one tool I wouldn't be without. Have had one or the other for 30 years or more, use the belt 90% of the time. Great for polishing if you use an old belt and no backing plate .

What he said. Whichever you choose do NOT buy cheap discs or belts. Buy the best you can afford, they will pay for themselves. I only buy Norton, usually blue zirconia. They last a long time and track very good.

keep your worn down belts to, the really worn ones work great for getting rid of sharp edges without removing material. Leaves a nice smooth surface as well as sometimes the newers belts can leave a bit of a hairy surface depending on the grade of belt.

Obviously though if the belts down to the point of having no grit its time to get rid of it.

I got to use a Burr King at a display for them at Street Rod Nat. a few years ago!! Best belt sander I've ever used, but takes up more space than most. It took steel off of a file like it was ****er!! Quite expensive for a home shop.
