Hot Rods BENNETTS ‘Pacific-Indian Special’ ‘29 Roadster on ‘32 rails

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by jordabennett, Jun 5, 2022.

  1. Pulled the ‘36 rearend down. Great surprises inside, need a full over haul- it had 4:11s but will try and source some 3:55s and new axles. She needs the full treatment AB3617DB-C3AB-49FA-9776-6AA84220E58A.jpeg 5DF5FCF9-18D4-4CF5-8613-D52EFB5925F0.jpeg AAC6E5A6-2C56-4EB6-93DB-18149D7150BF.jpeg 529E3B45-F535-4BF0-8AD7-3018978B03BE.jpeg 8E976AAF-6E8F-4517-8762-E8CD792DCAB3.jpeg

Whelp, that's a kick in the ass. Why don't you break down and use that Quickchange you've squirreled away?
Might be a good time to upgrade to push in axles too.

I can guide you through it if need be. I've shipped parts to Australia many times. (Canadians too!)

  3. This is probably a great idea. I wish a still had the QC- but the baby needed diapers so it was sold!

I've got a couple of 36 rears, pretty sure I've got one pulled down already

Clean it all up. You might be surprised how nice it is under the sauce. New bearings and gasket/shims, and away you go!

The R&P may be good under that goop, but that won't make it a 3.54:D

Looks like that is a 10 spline pinion. I may have a 3.54 set that would work for you. I'll look!

  7. Ring was shot, pinion was decent, luckily I dug through my parts pile and found a really nice R & P 6 spline- 3.77 I’ll make it work, the pinion bearing and race and near brand new (I may reuse them)
Really on the fence to modify the rear crossmember and set it up for future use with a quick change. Better to do it now. If you're thinking that a QC is a possibility in the future, the 6 spline is the way to go.

  9. Axle tubes are cleaned and ready for paint, I just need to decide what to do. I will possibly change the rear crossmember. And prep for a quick change. I have a set of axles but are longer. So need source others or. Shorten the 16 tooth ones I have. Sounds as if a bit of crossmember surgery is in order.

  13. Well I’ve decided to alter the rear crossmember. I will consider both an A and T spring for the rear.
The axles I have that are really good are longer as mentioned and might get them machined shorter, this way I have fresh ends for both the end bearing and hubs.
While I wait for a few parts I’ve started doing rust repair to the body. First was the right hand cowl side.
I also scored a set of 32 spindles- I was thinking maybe a 2” drop front axle and will modify the arms to suit the wish bone. Unless I find a 32 wishbone I would be winning. 16. While waiting for some parts I got inspired by Trogs post from the swap meet a few weeks back but I different kind of inspiration. It was a picture (below) of an old water decal of Mr. Peanut. This icon and or logo has been a favourite of mine for a long time. So it gave me a spark to create a life size version for the shop wall. I mainly wanted to try my new brushes and start the journey of a long practice with sign painting. Something I love and would like to get better at. Any ways here’s a few snaps. It will be hung and then back to regular programming. 75872930-2D37-4E2E-9974-C29B01CD8569.jpeg A592EFA2-D13D-4F11-B3F9-875729911A21.jpeg 87082968-598F-4F1A-9FAF-DBC56436E931.jpeg F805A9D2-E237-4E63-A950-726347BFDBDD.jpeg C59524A2-F130-4F1B-BD7F-011EED0A4454.jpeg 5D26ED0C-E1A5-433F-ABD1-6060A8520F51.jpeg 37F538A3-4BA2-4F11-9B75-0F1E1C046CB6.jpeg 5EB4E409-C180-4995-ACB1-788FE8862E58.jpeg AAE38C54-BC0B-4B5A-9918-612BAA202E7C.jpeg A914ABDD-7746-40B6-A91C-A7E27E64694F.jpeg 9489DD8D-DEA4-4B22-9090-DCFAFA2F9429.jpeg 0053C2F1-B98C-44CF-9007-91D01F27D2F3.jpeg 17AA5E49-0BEB-4BAF-AE51-6E7F6587B2CD.jpeg 07553448-E154-4B6C-90CA-814AD7DA746C.jpeg 5632D945-AD7F-4F9D-8826-007AAABE2A0C.jpeg D100B576-1242-42B0-A12A-C1A954D87EC6.jpeg

Awesome job on "Mr. Bennett"!! I will have to watch the video. Looking at some of these construction pics, the body shape looks like an upside down foot accelerator pedal!

  22. Well now that I’ve decided to run a quick change there’s one small piece of the puzzle I needed to work on, rear leaf spring- the 36 spring would t cut it so I simply modified a model T spring with an A top leaf. Removed a couple and cleaned it up. Radio used each end and smoothed the lips. Next is rear crossmember.

  27. Axles are back from the machine shop. Started doing some body repairs, the rear trunk being one. I wanted to covert the lid to a rumble seat. I removed the outer skin the to do the repairs on both. Almost wrapped on the I’m innner skin then on to the outer, making a whole new outer panel would be the best way but I want to try and keep as much or the original steel as possible. Just curious about louvres in the rear deck lid
    do they provide a function?
or are they just a styling cue
