Hot Rods BENNETTS ‘Pacific-Indian Special’ ‘29 Roadster on ‘32 rails

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by jordabennett, Jun 5, 2022.

  1. Wide 5's didn't start till '36. (36-39). Front spindles and drums are one-offs for 36, whereas 37-39 interchange.
36-39 rears interchange to my knowledge.

  2. Can you post the SKU number for Princess Auto item ; we have one locally now.

  3. I think it’s the only set they sell from memory. I’ll have a look!

  4. Just had a look and doesn’t look like they are available on their website anymore? Seems strange

  5. I took a look, and couldn't find anything either. If you post a picture of them, maybe I can find somewhere else. Sometimes, the SKU will cross to another vendor too.

Here is what my search found, TDS for the formerly being sold louver die set. I googled the pro point dome louver punches and came up empty.

Tangentially related to your thread.. Tim Horton the hockey player tragically died 50 years ago last Wednesday. He was 40-something and a beat up old man playing a young man's game, but still top level talent and teams kept paying him increasingly insane money to play just one more season. His final season was plagued with injuries. He was unable to finish his final game due to injury and on the ride home crashed his Pantera on a combo of painkillers and alcohol.

I have a 28/29 project going on 32 rails courtesy of parts from Irontrap. Fortune shined upon me and I live a short drive from them. Very excellent dudes. Anywho, do you have pictures of how you modified your subrails to fit the 32 frame? I bought the Steadfast kit but would like to see what you did. I am also curious about the rear frame and spreader bar. It looks like you bobbed the frame a bit, but left stubs hanging past the body for the spreader bar. Very very sweet. I like how it looks! Did you just bob the frame, or did you modify it to slope down to poke out under the body? Or did you modify the body? You probably documented this here or on YouTube and I'm just being daft at finding it. Also, why is all your steel tubing covered in blue?

  10. A very nice box showed up from Pacific QC!

  11. Also scored this hood and sides. I planned on welding these into the model a hood and hood sides. I actually really like the body line belt it would be cool to bring that through the bottom of the fuel tank. Can anyone identify it? I thought Chevy, Buick, Packard but still can’t seem to find it. It would almost look good re shaped to a model a grill and not 32…

Bringing the hinge line into the tank seam will set it perfectly.

It looks like Cadillac at first glance... Caddy was pretty known for making the louver handles ornate like that. But I will say the motor was an inliner 6 or 4, probably with the narrow part of the hood, the design on the bottom of the hood sides almost lend to 32-35 area, I know the doors that are installed on the hood sides were not done for many years, by 34 most were all gone by then in favor of louvers. I would look for obscure brands that were around back then.

A man of your talents could have that hood top extended down to meet the gas tank seam, make a video of the process and post it to YouTube in about 15 minutes:D (You've probably already done that)

The Quickchange is really nice. One of my local customers bought one from Pacific also. Said even with shipping, it was cheaper than a Rodsville which is the only currently made Halibrand clone.

  14. Yeah your right about years I just can’t seem to find a make or model yet, lots of ‘close’ but not exact.

I tried, the upward spear should be a giveaway but it isn't. Kool af but I can't find a thing to match. Era, I'd say no newer than 33 due to hood hooks vs a latch. Commercial perhaps?

Like that hinge parting line & the arrowhead appearing reveal, while it would involve some extensive metal shaping it would be super neat to incorporate both into the cowl & set the build apart from the norm.

  20. Totally agree- and will end up doing exactly this!
I’ve measured it up already and will work- almost thinking model a grill- nickel plated. Rather than the 32 grill but havnt decided yet.

  23. A really cool drawing we will use for a new run of clothing for Bennetts Customs Co. Evan aka Mooty captured all the details from the number of louvers to the ‘39 Pontiac tail lights. I better get this thing back in the fire (figuratively speaking) 76A9C37F-12FE-4F0A-9943-2E04933A5E96.jpeg

  24. Playing around with some ideas. A rough mock up shows the Austin hood in place. It will need a lot of work but I like the look of it. The bead along the hood side is something I want to bring into the side of the cowl (fuel tank). Make it look like it’s all supposed be there. 3ABD647D-609B-4DF8-B7EA-E0B646EED9C7.jpeg 5B2DC9C6-58BB-4749-96CC-2A83D1C36C26.jpeg 56AE0325-5DAD-4930-8D08-3DC6F1369C5C.jpeg 8792F91C-1A1A-4BE1-93FC-CFD55B6E866E.jpeg 73D7CB3E-B6D8-46DB-A0A4-C7F2B447B3EF.jpeg 0A6F2462-7D25-4215-BDC2-0C9934E0AD67.jpeg 37D2D299-3753-42DE-BF5C-41210DF9139A.jpeg 14D2D8AD-7E8F-49F7-811E-E06F76150303.jpeg 23228AFC-5D53-4CD7-9964-C5BF69F01306.jpeg

Amazing work! Did you just use a router to cut steel? Is that a thing that people do?

  27. Thanks Jim! Much appreciated, should have the t shift graphic done in the next couple months!

  28. I just used it to chamfer the edge, a band saw was used and multiple files and sanding tape

  29. Snapped a better angle of the body line this morning with the light. CC6CF84E-ECEC-4D43-9835-6A597B859C0A.jpeg

  30. Well the container finally arrived. First piece of the puzzle was cleaning the 36 dash to get it measured to fit. I still want to keep the under dash fuel tank with this setup. Maybe.
Disassembled the dash and gauge- hit it with some Galmet rust converter. It worked a treat.

Also I’m very tempted to get this ‘66 international Travelall for a hauler. anyone owned one, has the original straight six.
I want to get some 9.00 16s for it and do some fun bits and bobs
