I'll have to take a peek... I've been enjoying Brian Lohnes...primarily drag racing (wonder why) but not always and when it isn't it is usually golden
Agreed, Bennett Customs is indeed a talented addition in all facets of what the Hamb stands for, follow his projects on a regular basis, this guy is good !
I watch almost nothing (especially car related) on youtube for all the reasons mentioned but did have to check this out after you mentioned it. Seems like a pretty normal guy and he gets how to communicate what is needed without adding drama, etc. I have made it through at least a few minutes so far without giving up. Thanks for giving me something to waste time on...lol
He has a number of build threads here. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...n-special’-‘29-roadster-on-‘32-rails.1265947/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/bennetts-‘midnight-special’-speedster.1257714/
Already got an angry phone call about this one—so let me clarify: I’ve got no doubt there are some damn good hot rod channels out there. I’ve just kept myself from digging too deep over the years. Not out of snobbery, but out of self-preservation. When you write as many features as I do each week, it gets real hard to keep your own voice intact. I’ve always been paranoid that if I start consuming too much of what others are doing, I’ll get influenced—whether I mean to or not. So I’ve kept my blinders on. Featuring Bennetts Custom Co. wasn’t a slight at anyone else. I didn’t set out looking for it. The algorithm slipped it in, I gave it a shot, and I’ve enjoyed the hell out of it. That’s the whole story. Also, let’s not get carried away—I don’t have any real clout in the hot rod world. Don’t take me too seriously. I sure as hell don’t. I mean... good god y'all.
He hasn't posted a new one in a while, but Brian's Dork-O-Motive podcast has some really cool episodes to listen to.
Jordan is certainly fun to watch. A lot of YouTube can feel forced in having to create a new episode continually, Jordan makes it feel like you're just hanging out. LGKustoms on YouTube (also a member here) from Victoria, BC is fun too (mostly traditional but not strictly so).
You communicated that clearly in your original blog post..I understand.....is that opening musical riff really yours or something that is like you just heard and is now a replay.... Yes you have influence and you want your voice to remain unadulterated.....
I wouldn't be surprised if Jordan chimes in as well, he is great about responding to those that comment on his postings in spite of his many projects.
I've stumbled on him on IG. He's got some great instructional videos he's done and happily shares. Seems like a really talented guy and has no problem sharing what he's learned to keep the flame alive.
I regularly indulge in Jordan's videos, Bello's Customs, and Iron Trap Garage. All three are about as genuine as YT gets, in different ways. If you read this fellas... thanks for sharing your work!
yes. lol. Jordan’s a good follow and a good fellow. His content on the hamb, you tube and Instagram are all edited to fit each venue. I love it. If I want to see what he’s up to IG gives me little blips. If I want a good over view of progress I check his hamb threads. If I want a longer formatted view of a specific step in the process? You tube is where it’s at. Glad that he spends quite a lot of time making it all avalible for us.
I thought the same the first video I watched. A Canadian transplanted to Australia makes for a unique accent.
Thank you kindly for the nice words @Ryan It’s greatly appreciated and very humbling to hear. The general consensus of the channel and other platforms has been very positive and certainly keeps moving forward exciting. In a nut shell I am obsessed with Hotrods- and everything related. I seem to think about it probably too much with the of reminder from my wife saying “Earth to Jordan!” as I look into a gaze thinking about how to adapt a certain hub to a early spindle. I like too share as much info as possible to give people the boost to get it their shop, shed, space or just a creative outlet inside their brains. I’m always inspired by what people are creating and just too share that buzz! Keeping hotrodding alive and fun. Mostly fun..
I've been following Jordan's channel for a while I enjoy his (your) low key approach and presentation. lately I've been following a couple English and European builders too, as well as vintage European racing and race cars. not exactly traditional American hot rod stuff but, interesting and again well presented low key building https://www.youtube.com/@oakswamp https://www.youtube.com/@thebracketfactory https://www.youtube.com/@DominicChineas
I catch em of FB sometimes. Lots of quick, to the point how to clips. No fluff. Just banging out car parts
Mostly unrelated, but I never heard the term "maker" before watching one of Adam Savage's youtube videos maybe a year ago, and now I feel like I hear it all the time.
I think we have discovered the definition of irony. Really enjoy Jordan’ content here on the hamb. Clean, concise well thought out builds. With permission I even posted one of his sketches on FAS. Keep up the good work and carry on.
Hey @Ryan First of all, I totally get the element of watching a lot of YouTube, on a variety of different topics, its amazing the variety of content, that can be seen and enjoyed! Granted, there is a ton of wanna be hot rod stuff, that just isn't worth anybody's time, so I get that. Jordan Bennett, is one of those craftsmen, that is a total joy to watch! And he does indeed, understand "DESIGN" Since you are tuned into precision woodworking, and can appreciate true innovative blacksmithing and the art of steam bending wood, and the time honored element of the making of parts by hand, both wood and metal, and also watching how things are made by a true master craftsman, let me introduce you to Dave Engels of Joliet Montana. https://engelscoachshop.com/ You wont be disappointed when you see what this man can create and repair, granted its nothing to do with hot rods, but in your case, this is going to be a pleasant escape for you, since the skills this man has, and the excellent results he shows from his skills, in a down home, no nonsense manner, I think will appeal to you! By clicking onto these links, his website has a list of his videos, and he has an excellent explanation of how and why he does what he does. Enjoy from Dennis. https://www.youtube.com/engelscoachshop
