I have a Brookville 1932 3 window coupe, and the regulators are messed up, I need to order a new pair, but if the ones in it failed in 9000 miles, I figured there must be good ones and bad ones....so who makes the good ones?
So far all the UPC door internals have been spot on. Although purchased I have not installed the windows yet. Every other upc part was excellent as well
I used United Pacific in my deuce 5 window & sedan. Also 2 pickups all worked perfect. Should work good in your 3 window. Are the Brookville regulators Vintique? I've had a few pairs and they were not the best.
As a Brookville body owner with Vintique winders I'm curious, and potentially concerned, as to what the issue is. I found mine to be kinda stiff to raise, but by accident found when I fitted lip seals to the bottom outer edge of the window opening, requiring the two glued on bumpers to be removed, much of the stiffness departed. Chris
I just bought the car, but the previous owner is a friend and it has had window problems forever. They are stiff to wind up, the windows can tilt, it feels like the gear might be stripped out, just bad in general.
It’s actually a combination of not so great vintique regulators and terrible vintique window felt channel. The glue soaks through the felt in the deeper rear channel, then grabs the glass which pops the regulator off of the gear. I replaced two regulators on one door, before I figured it out. I ended up re-lining the channel with moleskin fabric. I have also seen guys fix it using Haartz cloth as well.
I would guess a lot of these parts are all made in the same place. Years ago when I managed a body shop there was a company called cert-A-fit. They made just about all the aftermarket body panels. The company had a grading system for their parts, A- being the best fitting/quality control pieces, then B, C, and lastly D which were terrible but cheap !! Different companies bought the different grades they pedaled at matching prices, so if I bought from one supplier I would get grade A parts but at a higher price, another company used grade B parts but they were cheaper than the previous one. And so on, we called the C and lower parts grades "used car lot specials". Point is they were all made at the same place, same machinery, same producer, just boiled down to their grading system and what grades the vendors wanted to sell. I would bet it's that way for a lot of these "resto" parts on the market today... ..
We used vintique 32 as the original had fubar gears and pins plus rust. Though this was 15000 miles ago and zero issues. Wonder if vintique has found a cheaper off shore supplier now, but managed to increase their margins??
Looked at the UPC site on line and couldn't find any pricing . Any idea what their regulators sell for? Does anyone make electric window regulators for a 32 ?
Electric windows are a street rod thing and this is a Traditional Hot Rod forum. Try the glass body manufacturers as they usually use them.
My 3 window coupe had Specialty Power Windows setup on it when I purchased it, and for twenty years, the window motors ran slower than I believed they should have. Specialty Power Windows supposedly have a lifetime warranty on their setup. But, you have to pay shipping to send the motors back for them to inspect them before they would send a replacement motor. I removed the motors and found they had an AC Delco part number 22062567. In lieu of paying the shipping cost, probably both ways, and the delay time to determine if they were covered by warranty, I found that the AC Delco part number for my window motors cross referenced to 1988-93 Cadillac Deville, so I ordered two motors from Rock Auto for $18 each. New motors installed 4 years now and they still work like new.
https://classic.upauto.com/front-door-window-regulator-for-1932-ford-closed-c-b20112 Search the part number provided (B20112), I did and found them on amazon.
Here is the portal with a shopping cart https://upcarparts.com/pages/search?q=B20112 I’ve always had to poke around until I could find it. It’s there site with secure payment and free shipping. I’ve bought a fender, and probably 10 other parts all worked exactly as they should with minimal modification (darn near non) Don’t forget to click option tab for right or left, good luck
Thanks for the name. United Paciffic, when I'm ready I'll use it. Not trying to be negative Buuut over many moons of reading threads I can say surely that Vintique only cares about your cash, not their work.
Power Windows have been around in OEM vehicles since the 1940s. Hard to believe all those rods and customs of the 50s never ever put power windows in any of them. I think some of the bubble tops had electric openers to raise and lower them as well. Personally I'm just in to Hot Rods........I'll leave the labeling to others.
The new motors ran 3 times faster after they were installed, just unbolted the old ones and bolted in the new and I was grinning at how much better they were! I forgot to mention that is was a major pain in the keister to change them because of the limited working room and several foul words were loudly expelled, but it was worth the effort.
