So....... I am thinking of doing a couple of East coast shows this year........ I have had several emails through the Vintage Torque account asking when we will come back east and get some shots of the traditional stuff back there............ so......... I ask you all this....... If I could go to 2 shows all year - what would get the biggest car count ?(traditional cars only - NOT a Good Guys show even though Rhinebeck probably is the biggest and I already know about the Syracuse show.....) I know that the Milltown show is good......and the guy that puts on that show is way cool - really good guy in my opinion (and you would be surprised how much that actually does influence some decisions about where to set up) And the Rumblers show in NYC is good - but how many cars do they actually get in there? I would like to do that show just so I can go there and hang out with the family for a few days........ the Rumblers show is more spectators right? OK I look forward to some interesting debate! thanks
Goodguys columbus had over 8000 cars (i believe) this year im sure you would find a traditional car or two. Its your best bet due to the large size. Other than that if you have heard of them then they are prob. big enough to check out. Other than that its local shows or billetproof
Might I suggest the Willy's Homerun and Niagara reunion in Lancaster, NY. 3 days of car shows and drag races. something about watching Willy's, Henry J's and Anglia's shooting it out does something for everyone.
a lot of guys badmouth this show,,,but lead east is three days of fun,,,,,mostly rods and kustoms,,,although there have been more 60s cars lately,,not too bad,,,,,, lots to do,,,doo wop show, bands, gene winfield was there in 08,,,its a little pricey,,thats mostly why some guys bitch,,but if you go with the right attitude, i guarantee you'll have a blast.. my FAVORITE was the one in connecticut put on by the road agents...but they no longer put on that show,,maybe they will again one day (i HOPE so,,it really was great).. hotrod hoedown is fun too,,previously held in delaware, now in PA near philly,,,,decent swap meet, bands, lots of great rods/kustoms jalopy showdown is supposed to rule from what i hear,,havent been to one (yet) rumblers is supposed to be a blast too (havent been to it,,but heard nothing but good stuff about it) gettysburg (run by KKOA) is usually pretty good...trad rods and lots of kustoms,,last year may have been the last (an unconfirmed rumor at this point) macungie, pa is decent (too many streetrods though for my taste) york is geared more to the streetrod crowd syracuse is lots of streetrods i hear theres an indoor show in maryland that is supposed to be excellent (nov, i think) there are lots more,,but those are most of the ones i know of
Checkered Flag Jalopy Showdown... make one trip and see it all... and I hear the showdown drags are good too.
Lead East is a good time.....went there a couple of years ago for the weekend and had a blast! Always wanted to go to the Rumblers & Jalopy Showdown, never made it though.
Depends what's your interest. If you want to look at cars, Goo Guys shows etc... are best. The September Good Guys show features lots of Gold-Chainers, trailer queens and just a few private vendors. I park in the lot outside and do a quick walk through - mostly yawning at the endless 350/350/Tilt-column customs and make sure I say Hi' on the HAMB hill. . The Rhinebeck "Spring Dustoff" usually around Mothers' Day is unique. The Dust Off has all kinds of cars driven to the show in good, medium and bad shape. RatRods and 4 door wagons are welcome too. The May "DUSTOFF", has literally @1500 vendors mostly private individuals emptying their barns of old car parts and un-needed project cars. Three days of the swap and still more to find... PB. Here's a few Rhinebeck SPring Dustoff - swap pics:
Lead east rumber,s ny had to add gettybury they had bad weather the past few years but a good turn out this year and a must if you a kustom guy hot rod hoe down
Rhinebeck is May1- 2-3 the 1st being swap meet set up and early vending. The 2nd being for street rods and customs and Sunday for original. It gets about 600 cars on Saturday, and 1000 on Sunday. Go to rhinebeckcarshow.com for more info.
milltowns a good one, the road agents show was great but they've taken a break, hope they can put one together again in the future, alter boys also good as well as the ty rods
There are only two shows on the east coast .. The jalopy showdown and the jalopy drags!!! I didn't know there were any other gatherings on the east coast
Kustom7777 wrote: That show is in Timonium Maryland usually the first weekend in December. As a participant it is by invitation only. As a spectator any one can go after they pony up the reasonable admission fee. York PA NSRA in early June is mostly streetrods, but the traditional hotrods are beginning to show up in greater numbers than in years past. Of course, there is Jalopy Showdown in May near Biglersville PA, which is always good. Macungie (rods and customs) is the last weekend in August. Used to be tough to get in, but attendance has been down lately, so registration is usually open until weekend of show. Jalopyrama in early November (hopefully it will happen again). Goodguys Charlotte, always a fun time. Ty-Rods Old Timer's Reunion in MA in early September. Lead East in late August, early September (usually Labor day weekend) Mobtown Greaseball in Baltimore in September. Billetproof Florida was decent last year (first year) and should be even better this year. In March 09 at Don Garlits' Museum.
funny. It all depends on what ypou are lookign for in a show. Family friendly? Drunken debauchery? Flames? Wannabes? Tell us what show you like that you DO go to and we can find a show along the same lines Im sure.
Gettysburg KKOA (If your a kustom guy, if not, don't go. Its all kustoms.) Lead East Jalopy Showdown (If you're a rod guy.)
