:: I think the showdown and the drags have a great selection of all the above. not the Wannabes part thought. Im sure a few find there way in. its all about the atmosphere... or maybe it bothers you that it has been mentioned 13 times already??
If Denise says the Jalopy Showdown, you know it's gotta be right. The camping, and especially the fact that anybody can take a lap or two around the track, makes it beyond compare.
Lead East, Rumblers-Brooklyn, Rumblers-Terryville, Alter Boys, Ty-Rods, Milltown, Fallout. Don't hold your breath on The Road Agents, I'm pretty sure they're done! Just curious, when did Ohio become the East Coast?
dont forget the gathering of the faithful in rochester mass in october! that's always a great show, this last one was huge, and i'm sure next year it'll be even bigger!
i really liked the jalopy showdown last year, i bet a search will find tons of great pics. I haven't talked to anyone not planning on returning. I'm guessing 2009 will be even bigger. here's acouple pics of the infield i took from the tower......... fyi, i don't think there's going to be a "Jalopyrama" in 2009.
To all of you guys that mentioned Gburg, that show is not worth going to anymore.Yea its a nice place to have a show, but to go all the way there to look at 150 cars, not worth it.Now when we used to draw 900 cars, than that was the second largest show on the East coast.
I really hate to read that from you Joe. You're one of the most hardcore kustom guys I know. Ya the show is smaller, even from when I started going, but the amount of quality cars that go there is what keeps me coming back. You can't go to any other show, besides maybe lead east, and see that amount of ultra-high caliber traditional kustoms. Last year there were 3 Matranga look alikes that were all close to perfect and then parked next to each other. For me, it doesn't get much better than that.
i have to agree with you bill we had a blast this year and i think it,s starting to pick back up with all the young guys that were thier this year and new cars
Another vote for the Showdown at Latimore. don't miss this Rumblers brooklyn is in a class by itself. Great event a lot of cars, music, bar, In a place you would never think an event could be held. Conklin's Radir Wheel pre-party to Lead East. About 2000 cars in a field, Not a car show, The best hot rod party in the world.
I think the weather had a lot to due with the attendance in Gettysburg, 08 was great both in weather and cars that were in attendance, in my opinion. Lead East is my Fav' cos you get R&R and cars all at the same time! The Pumpkin Run in Egg Harbor in Nov. VERY COOL show in Flemings junk yard.

True.Gettysburg always had the quality of cars.If it was built in time, than that was the show to take it to.But like I said,I was going when that show was the "Largest" custom car show in the country next to going to the Leadsled Spectacular. Even this past June, the quality of cars was still there. Not the quantity.
We might have a problem with " Best East Coast Shows"..... from "West Quoddy Head " way north,,,,,, to " Key West" way south..... is a few miles to say the least.............as the crow flies a I bet around 2000 miles... NY Metro area has a lot of great shows,,, if you like old cars and old music,,,,,,, (doo wop) talkin more than your fare share of "original oldies bands" Lead East is tough to beat... if your in the area at that time I would stop in.
I've gone to Lead East the past few years and have had a great time. Been caught drooling over many a car there. Then again, it's right around the block from my house. I've gone to the Hot Rod Hoedown the past 2 years and enjoyed it, although the first year I went I showed up just as most people were heading inside to see bands. I'm planning a trip to the Jalopy Showdown this year and am really looking forward to it. Couldn't make it last year.
