Best flathead aftermarket radiator

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bad Frog, Jan 22, 2012.

  1. I am looking to purchase a new aftermarket radiator for my 1950 Mercury with 8BA flathead. The motor has been bored and I am running a 3-71 blower with 3 Strombergs. Manual tranny. It is my intent to run an electric fan. There are lots of radiator manufacturers out there that vary in price significantly. Are there any recommendations on which I should purchase based on my power train with the intent of keeping the motor as cool as possible?

Walker is as good as any or you can have a custom made aluminum one made. It's all about how much you want to spend.

Walker. I know people want to save money, but I think a walker is well worth the money.

I have a mildly warmed over 8BA, with cam, bored, stroked, 2 -2's and run A/C on top of that, have a walker and run a electric fan only. Comes on when needed. Key is to have a high enough capacity fan, 2800+ cfm range. No problems.........

I'M very happy with my brassworks in a flathead model a, relatively small core compared to a merc.

  6. Many thanks. Was thinking Walker but it was on the pricey side of the possibilities. I will bite the bullet and just write the check.

Those stock radiators had a lot of coolant capacity,...And a good radiator shop can re core them. Lacking that, Walker is one I had good luck with on customer cars.
