Best place to buy Starter/Alt. that are good quality but not top price?

I'm with Mr48. CSK ( Checker,Shucks,Kragen, Murry's, And God knows who else) have an Autolite line of new starters & alternators that carry a lifetime warranty and 2 year road side ***istance. They will beat anyone elses price by 5%. Get a quote and they'll beat it. You'ld be hard pressed to be too far from a place with at least one of those stores. Almost all of the parts houses in Northern Cal & Nevada use the same refixer in Sacramento. Carquest, Napa, Etc. Same stuff different color box. I'm sure the South is the same. A rebuild now means they cleaned it, tested it, and fixed what made it not work. Remanufactured means it was totally gone through. For the price the new ones are best. CSK will even beat some Summit prices.

Steve's knows his stuff. quality work. Do a lot of vintage stuff, oddball stuff, racing stuff, and of course the regular work. Wiring, trouble shooting too.

 

Been in the parts biz for 20 years try NAPA or CARQUEST for quality. Avoid the Zone at all costs. Don't be fooled by their warranty, that's their smokescreen. Their quality stinks!! Just for the record, I don't work for NAPA or Car Quest.

 

i work at a rebiuld shop. i'm on the service side doing the installs. there are OEM parts and there is after market. you know which is better and why. you know what costs more. we have a 1 year waranty. but we can all so fix what ever is wrong with it. be it brushes. or total r/r. Find a rebiulder. there all over. might cost you a few bucks more. but you know your getting service. and all the life time warrantys only aplly if you have your paper work with ya.
