hey guys I have searched and get all kinds of info. Just curious for those of you out there who know. I'm building a 47 chevy I was wondering what the best rear end for that car is? If i could pick any rear for the car which one should it be. I want to eventually run fender skirst so it can't be to wide. I'm leanding toward the 55,56,57 chevy rear if i can find one. Let me know. Thanks
73-77 monte carlo trim all the bracket off the rear end weld on spring perches where needed. they fit good
The same rearends that fit the 49-54s will fit one of these with just a relocation of the holes in the existing perches - 55-57 Chevy, 70-81 Camaro, 70-79 Nova, S10/S10 Blazer 4x4. Overall widths vary some - it's pretty much a matter of how low you want to run the car, what tires you want to run, and what you want to spend on new wheel cylinders - the 55-57 Chevy are a little more money than the others. Also the newer rearends offer more ratio choices and the availability of a limited slip if you want one.
i'm running a 59" wide 9" in mine but it's also got 8.5" wheels... might want to look at an explorer rear too.
97-01 explorer axles, if the width works (59"-60" w/ 5 on 4-1/2) gives disk brakes. not that traditional, or practical, but one option I'm weighing for my F-100. JML
all helpful info. the blond with the nice rear end may be the way to go! might be able to afford that one.
