Buying a stall converter is akin to selecting a camshaft...to really get the best one for your application, you have to consider several factors, in cluding weight, gear ratio, engine mods, and type of use.

For exotic or high horsepower drag cars, a custom built converter designed to suit your specific vehicle is the best way to go...but for a street/strip car, an 'off the shelf' converter will be fine.

Of course, even with mail order common converters, you will have several different brands, sizes, features and stall speeds to choose from, so look them over carefully.

Myself, I'm pretty partial to TCI converters...their Saturday Night Special is a relatively inexpensive converter that provides slightly higher than stock stall speeds, and it works great behind mildly built engines in street driven cars. Their Streetfighter converter is a step up, and is good for more radical motors, and the selection gets more exotic from there.

With a host of manufacturers to pick from, you should be able to find something to suit your needs and budget rather easily. Check out the transmission specialty companies themselves, or contact large mail order houses such as Summit or Jegs for their recommendations.

I had always thought that 'custom' converters were way to expensive. I was wrong. I found the local place that built me converter for Pontiac. It cost me $70, cheaper than any other place. I told them what motor, cam, rear end I was running and they setup for me. not problems and that thing launched great.

    just my .02

Any ****** shop should be able to help you. Call TCI and explain your set up and how you plan to drive. They an recommend a stall speed. go to the local ****** guy an buy it (have it installed - if you need to). or mail order it..
