I know there are alot of tire threads but I need advice! My buddy has a 580 HP blown small block 383 Chevy in his deuce roadster. Very Wicked! But anyway, the car will spend 90% of the time on the street and 10% (mabye even less) on the drag strip. He loves the sidewall look of pie crust slicks, but needs full tread. What tires have a cool pie crust sidewall with full tread that will do well on the strip. They also need to do well in the rain. It dosent need to be pie crust, but id it is thats great!

What have you used on your street/strip car?

Big fully treaded street tires are the best and safest, especially in the rain.

Quite a few high HP cars have been written off in the rain while running drag radials or slicks.

Just drive like there are egg shells under the pedal and all will be well :D

For me, the best fully treaded street tires were McCreary. The compound was softer than my buddy's Goodyears slicks. However, I never drove the car in the rain. Back in the '70's, a lot of guys ran Caldwell recapped yellow dots. Yellow dots signified a soft compound. They also had blue dots which was a street compound.

However, for high horsepower cars, I would just run regular street tires and not take a chance in the rain.

The guy can afford 2 sets of rear tires too.

A set if slicks for the track and some good street tires.
That kind of power and light weight can cause you trouble with shitty tires.

The only thing keeping you where you want to be and out of the ditch is 4 small contact patches.

  5. Hey! I saw on hursts cheater slick site what looks like fully grroved slicks. Will those do well in the rain cause they are grooved or are they still bad rain tires>
