So I scrounged up one 46-48 Ford hub for my finned Buick drum conversion. Do I just heat this thing up and press it out? Are there any tricks? First time trying this, so lets hear your ideas.
Maybe this will help..... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=137912&highlight=removing+ford+hubs
You should just be able to beat them out. But I'd at least use a br*** hammer or a block of would so you dont kill the wheel studs. Heat kinda scares me on a drum because of warpage or fear of weakening it.
There is a tool for every job if you want to do it properly ;-) different drum but same principal.....you'll get the idea. http://idisk.mac.com/forever4/Public/pages/swaging.htm Kev.
Don't beat them out; you'll ruin the hubs. They are swedged on. Theres a cutter made to do that job or you can do as I did which was to grind off the heads of the studs from inside the drum and poke them out from the back. You'll have to replace the studs though. .....Bob
