Cut it up into little pieces and shove it in a large flat rate box. USPS rocks!

Seriously, I don't know. I've seen where the Roadster Shop crates them up and sends it LTL. Ain't gonna be cheap!

  3. Look for a freight service. Some times you have to either wrap it in plastic or mount it to a crate.
Or ask one of the regular guys with trailers to see if they can get a shipment in when they are coming back empty.

I just used this company to ship a SBC from Denver to Florida, total weight of 500 lbs. about a month ago.
Had to have it palletized, and went with their residential, door to door option, which added another $150. Picked
it up here on Monday night and delivered it to the buyer Thursday morning. Was able to track shipment
all the way. Cost to buyer was $808. Great communication and help. Very courteous drivers on
    both ends as well.

I had a beautiful frame shipped from Ohio to California. Nicely crated. But it was shipped November / December time and there was some severe weather to contended with. Mine was clearly shipped on a non covered truck and with salted roads it arrived covered in surface rust. Hugely disappointing. Took a couple of days to clean it up, thankfully without any ill effects. Also allowed me to really get to know the frame most intimately, which was beneficial I guess. I got an apology for the error. Insist your frame to be shipped is appropriately packaged bearingni mind all factors! That wasn't on my radar at all!

Whatever you do don't use Oak Harbor or Saia. Don't ask me how I know.

  7. And don't use Estes unless you want it damaged, they managed to bend the frame horns on a pair of 1932 rails, right in front of me, the drived shoved them off the back of the truck and did the damage, I thought about refusing them but I kept them and filed a complaint.

I got A hundred dollar check from Estes for my time to straighten the damage. HRP

Here at All American Classics, we sell frames bare and I stress to the customer to drop into Craigslist in their region, look beneath services, click under labor/move and there usually is a person with a truck or trailer ready to haul.

  11. I know Fastenal use to do freight shipping

  12. They stopped that.

uship.com, throw all the details out there, wait for bids to come in. Brokers bids will come in first, hold out until an owner/operator sees the load board and will throw a bid at you that makes it worth it. I've done it a lot, but one example I was needing a rolling/not running car shipped from Phoenix to Austin. I got a bunch of +$1000 bids, and kept waiting hoping for a $700-800 bid, and a guy came in and bid $400. I couldn't pass it up.

  14. I second Uship as an option. Anything that can be damaged easily I would not use commercial freight anymore.

Not sure what's happening with or provided by Fastenal these days but I shipped an almost complete 37' Dodge pickup across the US on 2 custom made pallets several years ago. The only thing I did to accommodate the shipment (to minimize pallet size) was to cut the frame in 1/2 length-wise. Otherwise the cab and misc parts were on (1) pallet while the bed, fenders, running boards, etc. were on the 2nd pallet. Engine, transmission, rear-end and suspension parts all fit under the cab and bed.

Man I wish I'd known that when I last shipped a pallet. I had 5 3spd/overdrive transmissions on a pallet going from TX to PA and I weighed it at 700lbs including the pallet and straps. They called me after it was delivered and tried claiming that it weighed in at 1,384lbs and there was a bunch of extra cost. I simply sent them the Borg-Warner specs of what each trans weighed to prove that they were wrong. I think after a couple weeks they admitted it was an error and went away.

Definitely going with the Pre-Paid plan in the future.

I can’t imagine how anybody would allow their precious cargo to be hauled by the unknown lowest bidder. Haven’t you guys ever seen one of these shipping threads before?

I've never had an issue with the shipping or receiving of a handful of cars, motorcycles, engines, etc. using uship.com. They are bonded and insured motor carriers. I have had issues with sellers who are shady and hide issues, but that's the gamble you've got to take on sight unseen purchases.

  24. Doing that might result in you getting a schmuck with a rusty pickup and an old U-Haul trailer, though. Might be OK for a frame or chassis depending upon how fancy it is, but I wouldn't go with the lowest rate for a vehicle. Especially if it's substantially less than the rest of the bids.

Why the h3ll did you purchase a frame through Walmart's online marketplace in the first place? Use some common sense, man.

  26. Years ago, (I mean, like, 20) I had kartbreaker ship me a T frame from Texas.
What we found is that if you don't call it an 'automobile' part, such as a frame, but instead call it something like 'metal artwork' the cost is significantly less. Like, lots. I think it cost me $100 to get it to Michigan from Texas, as compared to over $500 listed as an 'automobile frame'.
Another thing was to have it shipped to my work instead of home, that saved a lot of money as well.
Times may have changed and none of this may be true, but it did work for me in the past.

    v/r,

For 40 + years I always classified my bare chassis/frames as Gearframe Steel class 85. No mention that they were automotive. Occasionally some sharp eyed bean counter would figure it out but since I had shipped prepaid freight they normally didn't try to make a change. I also tried to have my customers use a commercial address for receiving. Recently now that I've retired I did have a trucking company I used for about 20 years come back on me for under classed freight. They raised the rate from class 85 to class 300 and took away my 75% discount plus adding on late fees and interest for the last 20 years on all shipments. I had kept all the bills of lading with rate quote numbers that were signed by their employees that were also marked PIF plus all the canceled checks that show payment for each shipment. So far it's a stalemate? Life goes on.

Why does a hauling company care if the weird shaped hunk of steel fits a car or something else? Could be the frame of a giant bird feeder for all that matters.

I'd recommend one of the HAMB-tested guys in the HAMB-o-Dex. But, this is not the time of year to be crossing the western mountains hauling a trailer. How big a rush are you in? Also. just curious, but what's so special about this frame that you can;t find one in the 1400 miles between Nebraska and Washington?
