Used to get all my unboxed deuce rails bolted and banded together on long pallets from ASC when they were in Mississippi, truck freight. Usually got a dozen pairs at a time. Never a problem.

Tell them to pound sand and sue you. Also let them know if they ding your credit report, you'll hold them liable in court.
There's no way they can collect late fees and penalties on a contract that's already been fulfilled and paid in full especially that old. The statute of limitations has long passed. As an example, IIRC, CA is 4 years.

Don't you and a buddy need about a 4 day road trip? Line up a U haul trailer for the trip home, drive there, hook up the open u haul trailer, wrap the frame in a cheap HF tarp, load up and drive home.

Lower the freight class number the lower the cost. If you don't buy the extra insurance and its lost or damaged you only get about .25 a pound.

I have found FedEx freight, and shipping terminal to terminal to be very reasonable.

  12. When I had a motorcycle frame moved from Kansas to the West Coast, I avoided using basic freight after hearing too many stories about lost pieces or mystery damage. I’ve seen the impact of skipping proper packaging—surface rust and bent rails are way more common than folks think, especially with open truck transport in bad weather. What really made a difference for me was picking a mover who actually specializes in these kinds of large, heavy, awkward shipments, and who sends vetted teams. Packing it right with lots of wrap/crate protection is 100% worth the hassle, too, as is insurance. If you want a legit pro for this, there are platforms that connect you with only top-rated and properly licensed carriers. I got way more peace of mind using ThreeMovers because they let you compare quotes quickly and you know up front the companies are already vetted.

  13. Many horror stories of what most thought to be unbendable items. :)

Take a lesson from Roadster Shop or Morrison and see how they crate one of their chassis for shipping. Expensive but they normally get there?

Fastenal didn't ship things that large anyhow. The item had to fit on a "standard size" pallet.
Your crate could be a bit smaller as long as it could be picked up with fork lift or pallet jack.

For most of us shipping with a freight company who are not in business and don't have a legit business address the best way is to take it on the pallet ready to go to the feight terminal and ship it terminal to terminal if the person receiving it doesn't have a business address and possibly a fork lift to unload it.
As far as the pallet goes, sometimes the freight company will have large pallets/skids out back that someone who picked up a large item didn't want to take with them when they loaded the piece on their truck or trailer. Or check with ag equipment dealers as they get large pieces in on heavy equipment and you may be able to get a solid pallet that you can modify for your needs without spending a ton of money.

This thread was brought back so I thought I'd update with my results. I bought a 56 Olds convertible frame I used U-Ship and was very happy with the price and the results.
