I've finally got the dough together to get a set of 5 wide whites. And I've looked at coker, diamondback, and some others, but who has the best ones? I'm interested in high mileage, and something that will stay white. I drive my car a LOT, so the lil 40k treadware rating on some of the cokers just aint enough. I'm sure I want radials. So... whose got a comment? :)

You guys ever gonna make a square sidewall like the new coker radials? I really hate to buy from them.

I got the Diamonbacks that look sort of like motorcycle tires on the front of my coupe. They ride great, look good (for radials), and clean a lot better than my Cokers. And Ron answered about a million stupid questions on the phone when I was trying to pick a size and style. Before he was on the HAMB, and he had know idea who I was.

Square sidewall radials would be *****in'.

I had Daytons on my '56 Olds and loved them. I drive pretty fast and they worked fine. The first ones I bought bubbled at the sidewall and the company replaced them and waived the pro rate and just sported me up with new ones. And they didn't bubble. The whitewall was 3 5/8" on a 225 series and 4" on a 235. Looked just right with '57 Caddy hubcaps with the 4' bullet from Gene Winfield.

I've never heard anything bad about Diamondbacks, never seen any either. Never heard anything good about Cokers.

But, personally, I'll be buying Daytons again. However, if anybody I know gets some Diamondbacks, I'll give them a serious look. But the whitewall has to be the same as the Dayton, or real close.

    Sandlapper! :D

I was going to tell him Diamondbacks, all kinds of bad **** said about Coker radials. The prez of Coker even came on, but the damage was done. When it comes to radials, their name is mud around here.

Yes, we now offer "sqaure" sidewall radials in a few limited sizes. These look like a bais ply with that flat sidewall and pie crust shoulder design. See our online catalog, pages 1-5 for detailed pics. Most are of the 16" breed.

I'm due for a set of tires and am interested in these new pie crust sidewall radials, but I have 15" tires (running 205s front and 235s rear). Are there any plans to release those, and if so, when?

    Comet,
Your best bet is our Diamondback SE model. They offer an abnormally narrow treadwidth, 1" narrower than a normal radial tire. It is difficult to obtain a pie crust type tire in the smaller size, however, the rear 235/75R15 we do offer in an extra load tire that does have that distinct square shoulder. (see page 4 of our catalog 700R15 or page 24 for XL tire)

interesting to see Ron on here. . . Diamondback just custom made some heavyduty truck tires for me for my delivery truck project. . . it was a pain in the *** to find the perfect tire for me but they stuck with it untill we came up with the right one. I just got them mounted last weekend and they look really good and fit the fenderwells on the lowered 1954 chevy COE just right. I just wanted to add a public note of appreciation. They definitely have earned my business in the future.

I've had many sets of Diamondbacks. Never a problem, always stayed real white.

I'm very pleased with them all.

I buy mine from a guy in NewtonFalls Ohio who's a stocking dealer for them

Caddylakman, take some of that hard earned dough, go down to Pepboys and buy you some Cornells, grind'em (PM Nads for details) or have them ground and then take the boatload of money you saved and buy more hot rod parts.

Cheap and easy, just like the Big Daddy. ;)

I saw a 48-54 Dodge COE ramp truck while driving through Greensboro last weekend. Chopped top and custom paint with chrome wheels. Looked like it was lowered, too. Pretty damn cool. Had a bright red 48-52 Dodge pu on the back of it that I am guessing he was taking to some sort of show.

Diamondback, it was about three years ago at Charlotte i met your man Bill Chapman & when he discovered i was from England he said "i know a guy from England who buys tires from me" & i casually replied "you must mean John Pettifor he's not far from me"
It was funny at the time, ask him if he remembers & say hi!

only ever heard good things about your pruducts by the way.

Just a couple weeks ago I put these diamondbacks on my '47. They were very friendly people and the tires are excellent quality. No problem putting them on or balancing them. Cheaper than coker too. I recommended them to my boss who was thinking of putting radials on his restored packard.

Wish I had seen this thread before I bucked up for BFG Silvertown radial www's from Coker. Even though I'm happy with the tires, they were Ex$pen$ive. And I was really bummed when I looked at the back of the tire and saw "Made in Mexico".

Wow, this is more response than I imagined. I'm glad I started it too. I've been impressed by the knowledge of the fella at Diamondback. He explained the differences between the 215/s, 225's, 235's, and so on. He also explained the difference between a 70 and 75 series tires, which actually made sense to me for the first time. So.. I think I'll be getting a set of diamondback's real soon. (2-3 weeks shipping aint bad). I'm glad this thread has helped some folx other than me too. That's always an added bonus. I gotta laugh about the made in mexico tags on the cokers, who knew. Thanx to everybody for makin my choice easier. Oh, and as for the commend about buyin cheaper tires and havin em ground, Yeah, that'd crossed my mind. But it just aint the same. I payed about $135 per tire for a good set of thin white wall radials 4 years ago. So.. spending another 50 bucks per tire aint gonna kill me to have some georgious tires. I figure most of my ride is function over form, but the tires should have a lil of both.

Wanted to apologize to the folx at diamondback. I ended up getting cokers. I had to re-schedule my move by a week, and I jus couldn't wait those two more weeks. I'm truly sorry, as I think I'da been happier with the diamondbacks. I'll surely keep a record of these cokers though, and let everybody know how they are. If they stink, I'll be happy to order diamondbacks when I have more $$$ and more time.

How is shipping done on Diamondback tires?

"Automotive Stud" said he just got a set sent to Jersey.

    FedEx?, UPS?, Truck Freight?.

    Thanks, Powerband

Shipping took 2 weeks and was about $50. I don't imagine anyplace else being any cheaper. They came UPS.

  29. The Cokers have the right look on my car. The Performance is ok, I drive a lot of miles and in all kinds of weather.
