Kinda late on this. I'll try to keep a long story short. Grew up with a Ford junkyard as my back yard...over 90 Fords of all types, from '37-'62 being the newest. Started helping my Dad rebuild flatheads when I was about 6, cleaning parts. He was a hoarder, and the nut doesn't fall far from the tree. I got heavy into performance '60s Fords as a teen, and still am. I race an original R-code '69 Mach 1 with an all factory iron 427 in it, completed 2 Drag Weeks with it, and did another with my '65 Galaxie, 390 powered. My tow rig is a '70 F350 dually, also 390 powered but with a stroker 445 going in soon. If you haven't guessed, FE's are what drew me to the performance world. I'll be pulling the factory iron 427 in the Mach later this year to put in a 450" tunnel rammed stroker FE. Upping the ante considerably. Yep, off topic, so I'll only mention the Mach and truck here. The Mach is my baby, first car I ever bought, and will never leave my life. Anyway, I'm retired now and looking at 2 retirement projects. This '55 Ford which has been in the family for the last 40 years... And this '37 Coupe, which has been in the family for the last 55 years... It's extremely solid, and complete, despite the missing pieces in the picture. The '55 is 100% original and untouched. It ran and drove really well when parked. It only needs new rubber and brakes, fuel system flushed, and some tuning on the engine to get it on the road. I'll also regasket the engine. Best part is it's a standard with overdrive. Everything I own is standard shift, including the Mach and the truck. Yep, even my tractor is a Ford...AND on topic as far as years go! Both will get traditional custom/rod treatments. The '55 a smooth mild custom for daily driving, the '37 a traditional mild flatty hop up for daily driving. Cars aren't designed to sit, and I don't plan on letting that happen. Anyway, back to hoarding. Between me and my Dad, who passed away last year at 86 years old, it's time to start getting rid of thousands of parts we collected over the years. I'm hoping to help out a bunch of fellow HAMB'rs, and hopefully make some friends in the process. I'm also in dire need of help and advice on the '37 as my experience doesn't go past 1950 as far as cars go, and this place has already delivered in that regard! I'm really looking forward to having a flathead for a daily. I live in a very rural area, so it's a can-do thing. I live eat and breathe vintage! Heck, even my fridge and stove is vintage 1942. I hate new junk...and that's coming from a mechanic. I'm retired and this is what my future holds...provided I'm lucky enough to have a future...lol Did I say I'd keep this short? Good grief, I tried
Fantastic intro! Good luck in retirement and with the two projects, both of which I love. I'm certain your Dad will be looking down on you as you make progress and will always be an inspiration for you.
Two great projects. I'm especially loving that 37 and looking forward to a build thread on that one (with lots of pictures, of course )
My Dad was an awesome guy. He started as a TV and radio repair guy in the '50s, then went on to work at the Ford Lima Engine Plant for 30 years, taught me how to work on anything and everything, taught me self reliance, the beauty of simplicity, to love the outdoors, to help the less fortunate, and to enjoy our short time on this Earth. Unfortunately, dementia took the last couple years of his life. I do miss him.
I do plan on doing a thread on that one. I haven't been this excited about a project since my Mach 1. And I have a bad habit of overdoing stuff, so it should be an interesting ride. I know my Mach is off topic and banned here, but since this is just a "Intro" page, I hope it's okay to post a picture of it here.
Hi CJShaker, I cannot send you a message but I am wondering if you still have that 37 Ford coupe LH window trim available? Message me please. Thanks
@37FordUSAcoupe , cj has not been here for about six months. If you send him a HAMB conversation, he should get an email notice to check his HAMB conversations. I hope this helps you connect.
