My left arm [yep I am RHd], because it broke at the wrist they had to put a plate in with some screws for a strong mend, the doc was ecstatic about how it turned out. Then I saw the x-ray, toolmaker he is not but if he"s happy I'm happy! Went to therapy and progress was/is good a little sore still but my Rumatiod arthritis in my shoulders is so painful I still can't function very well and my right pinky looks like a cheese twist but bends pretty good now.. Some times I wonder whats next; then I find something that needs done/doing.
Ibuprofen is good, @blowby . I depended on it for years. But guess what... you can't take it if you're taking a blood thinner. And I am now. I miss my Motrin.
Ibuprofen is also *very* hard on your kidneys. Make sure you drink a *lot* of water to help flush it & them out, to minimize damage. Fwiw; I've found that white willow bark works better than aspirin, IBP, etc. Was the original non-pharma pain-killer. Turmeric(w/black pepper) helps, too. & there's a few others(inc some essential oils) that help, depending on what the source of pain is. No, I don't sell any of this. Just've used it myself for 15+ yrs. Me n pharma-stuff don't get along well... Also, 50merc; w/the new xrays, doctors' written statement, proof of (correct) redo, I hope you & a "pro" had a very long talk w/the orig hosp n it's "staff" that did the original "fix". Too much of that is not corrected properly. Also, there are some voice-to-text/email programs around that may be helpful, although you may spend as much time correcting them as typing now. IDK. Marcus...
From about the time I was 15, everyone I knew told me I would never live to be 50 years old. I heard that line all through at least my mid 30s. I lived a bit on the wild side, and my body got a lot of abuse. Probably more then it should have, because if you don't expect to live past 50, who cares what shape I might be in "in my old age". The day I turned 50 was quite a shock to me! To put things into perspective, here I am today, 65 and almost another 1/2. I guess that would mean I'm in much better shape then anyone ever thought I'd be in at this age! I've beaten the odds. For some reason, I'm not too concerned about my health, but I'm not doing so much stupid stuff anymore. With that understanding, I'm just going to keep plugging along taking every day as it comes. For me, everyday is a gift I never expected to have. Gene
There's a thread right now discussing motor oil viscosity. Judging by the way I bleed lately, I think the doctor changed my blood to 5W8.
water blood, thin skin, and those damm blood bruises that i get if i brush up against something kinda hard. They get the size of a half dollar, last 2 weeks or more, and of course i hit the same thing again the same place so they turn nice purple to black. Especially nice on your hands and face.
Will be 80 in couple of months. Last 18 months the aches and pains have really started. Hard to get down on the floor and back up again and while I am much slower in the shop than before I also am, I think, less apt to make mistakes that I used to by hurrying. I probably have my last build underway but, I'll stay at it until I can't walk out to the shop anymore. The hardest part of growing old for me is not my slowly declining health but dealing with the increasing numbers of friends that are no longer alive. Fewer and fewer friends at shows and swap meets or just stopping by to catch up on build progress or sharing information.
