Just an IMPORTANT UPDATE for this group. As you may know, I am re-doing the interior on my 54 Customline; considering some carpeting options. That led to bringing up the old, often used during my younger days; J.C. Whitney; come on you have to agree; the parts may not have been "High Quality", but they had some, "can't find anywhere else" cool, strange parts; anyway - Found that J.C. was bought out by CarParts.com, so I went to there site. Here's where the "NOTICE" comes in: Found the carpeting I needed, On Sale for $177.00, not bad but I thought I would wait before placing the order; the next day I get an email from CarParts (I gave them my email for future sales and items); email said JOHN IT'S YOUR LUCK DAY - NEWARK CARPETING FOR YOUR 1954 FORD CUSTOMLINE ON SALE - $133.00. I thought Wow, glad I waited. So, I clicked to "Add To Cart" and the price came up $177.00. Hmmm, did it again, same thing $177.00. I got on their Chat Box, but they told me to call "Customer Support", so I did. I won't go into any description of the "Agent" ? I was talking to them, but when I explained, over and over again, they simply came back with: "Yes, OK, so you want to place an order for the carpeting; great, we'll give you a discount, the price will be $177.00". I got so fed up after multiple emails, and multiple phone calls I gave up. So; If you have, or are considering dealing with CarParts.com, don't believe the Sale Price, make sure when you check your cart before paying it's the price that was the advertised price. A true BAIT-&-SWITCH tactic
Sad, in my youth I bought a few things from J.C. Whitney. Like you said, maybe not the best quality but they had what I needed. I know that Whitney went from a Chicago warehouse to an internet supplier several years ago and they went the way of Sears. I wonder what happened to the inventory at the huge Chicago warehouse? For some reason I remember the address, 1917-19 Archer Avenue. As a kid, I would spend hours looking through their catalog and dreaming. They were the RockAuto of their day.
Yep; I truly enjoyed going through the J.C. catalog; as I said they had some very interesting parts; I actually purchased a "AC" unit for an old VW Bug I had from them; but the now CarPats.com; well as I informed everyone, not the old J.C. I remember. I guess I'm sounding old, LOL! I just got an email from them asking me how their service was; I'm responding now; so maybe they'll give me the carpet sale, we'll see. Take care JPL/OHIO
Try Quality Auto Carpets in Chicago. Jim, the owner called me several times in response to an inquiry I sent about carpets and a headliner for my '54 Ford Ranch Wagon. Very knowledgeable and helpful guy. Prices seemed reasonable. 2-3 weeks lead time. https://www.qualityautocarpet.com/
I used to buy a lot from them when they were Warshowski’s. Then they moved to the huge by enormous warehouse just off of I80 past Joliet. Not near as much fun going there.
I always thought they were a scam-ish site, too bad they come up in many a part search. Just looked too fishy from where I sat.
Same here, I use the car-part.com site (Notice the dash) a lot which connects you to junkyards across the nation. But If you forget the dash between "car" and "parts" you get carparts.com and I figured they must be scamming. Now it is confirmed. EDIT: removed the "s" as noted by @AccurateMike
I love https://www.car-part.com/ (no s on "parts"). That is the junk yard search engine. The above link takes you there but, is misspelled CarParts.com feels scammy to me too. I ignore search results from there. Mike
The junkyard site is legit, I have used it a few times to find mostly OT stuff locally. Now I call the 'yards I like direct when I need something.
