He was just living there but he suddenly has a hankerin' to hit the road...

I think you need to get him on one phone and have someone waiting outside that you can call on another so they can go in after him! It's going to be hard to keep this guy under wraps.

I hope Friday and Saturday goes well with you. I have gotten parts for my buddy in South Africa a time or two and have taken some in a suitcase for a fellow HAMBer. I couldn't imagine them getting screwed to this level. This is just wrong.

Pete, really check out this site, it is the registration of assumed names filed with the Co Secretary of State. If you follow patman's instructions you will see that Mr Webster did file the paperwork to assume the name of that Motel. So either he is in the middle of scamming the owner's of the Motel or he is the owner of the Motel. What info do you have that he is not the owner, the Co state police might be interested in that if he is in the middle of a scam involving the owners of that Motel!

Might be worth dropping a dime...hopefully *after* the parts are recovered.

I tried to do a deed transfer search, but that county doesn't have online access to the records. (Other counties in CO do...but not this one...)

Something just occurred to me... When you bring up that form, it says something about that it was "filed electronically" I also remember somewhere else on the site that in order to do an electronic filing, all you need is a name, driver license #, and last 4 of SSN. I think it's very possible for that info to be acquired and entered by someone other than the rightful owner. Hmmm...

That is exactly what I was thinking, it looked like anyone could file the paperwork and it might take some time for everything to catch up.

Too bad Pete is gone. It was my impression though that he had someone that was going to help him get the parts this weekend. I would love to hear what the outcome was.

I think he might be movin' money for terrorists.......... maybe Homeland Security should know about this guy...... The motel could be a stopover for human smugglers bringing them into the US........ After all, it is on a major highway AND CO is a common route and destination. Just sayin'

He is not really, there is a lot known about him. Pete has asked us not to really do anything though, because wants to be a nice guy and do things through legal channels.

The hard part is that Pete cannot meet in person the authorities that would take care of this type of thing because of distance. Also, in general, unless Pete can show that this guy has a history of defrauding people, the police will refer it to civil court, where Pete has to show up here to do (and it can easily get dragged out to the point that it will get very expensive for Pete)

Not trying to hijack this thread, but I am impressed with the resources available on the HAMB. My 88 year old dad went missing in Oct 2000, and neither him or his car has been found. Got very little help from the authorities. Bet you guys could have found him. Best guess is that he was killed and his car taken to Mexico. You can read about it on this site. http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/b/bass_william.html or this one.
http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/mpch/mpdetails.asp?id='M10/12/20013:47:29PM'. Probably too late now....wish I had known about the HAMB back then. I think about him every day. My son Brian (Bass on the HAMB) got his love of old cars from me and my dad. Dad would be very proud of his grandson if he was still here.
Enough of that....hope you can help get Pete's money or the stuff he paid for.

The only thing we can hope for is he's reading this thread and slits his wrists after Pete gets through with him!! If he put as much effort into a real job as he does scammimg people he'd be pretty successful.
