I certain OnStar can be remotely activated WITHOUT the car owner/driver's knowledge, and even if it's no longer being subscribed to!! In fact, I'm POSITIVE this is the case! I'm assuming you called OnStar directly. When a subscriber renews their expired subscription, OnStar remotely activates the friggin' unit!

Yet another reason I'll never own a newer GM vehicle.

Best of luck getting your stuff back. Thieves are right there with politicians and tweekers on the lower-than-scum hierarchy of life. Cops around here treat a stolen car as: "Sucks to be you. You got insurance?"

yup, that seems to be the case

  3. Know anyone with a personal grudge that would want to purposely try to make your life miserable?

If someone knew the layout and really wanted to dick you over, going for those titles and just those titles would be the way to do it.

Stealing the late model car might just be used to throw you and the police off the track, if the keys were there for it it wouldn't be a big deal to steal it, drive it someplace where if you walk away from it as soon as you turn around it's stripped, and abandon it there. It could even have not been planned, just be a crime of opportunity.

Being that you sell cars, there's always the chance someone could be disgruntled enough to want to get even, too. I'm not saying you screwed anyone, but if someone felt they were screwed... just in the shit I sell I've run into some really ridiculous assinine behavior from people, over things they knew about in the first place, so nothing would surprise me.

bobwop, Sorry to hear about the robbery. I understand that its about the feeling you get from a rip off.
RAY With's comment on "Gun point car jacking's here"- In Tejas? I think the dope has more impact on these activities than the economy,IMHO.
    Good luck

It would seem to me paying to re-activate the On-Star would be cheaper than rekeying all those cars. What is it around $200? If you have the VIN # Pay that, find the car and hopfully find the thieves.

I feel bad for Bob. He is a good guy and doesn't deserve this problem. Hope they can be caught.

the late model car stolen is a black 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP, fully loaded.

no leads yet. most seem to think this is part of a scheme to register the titles out of state and then go for title loans.

I suppose there could be somebody pissed at me. Most likely somebody here on the HAMB cause I won't take any crap :) .

Just the other day I sold a car that was "as-is" and the customer complained that the transmission was shifting harshly. I drove it myself, yet couldn't duplicate the symptoms. In the end, they got their money back, I got the car back and it went to a dealer auction. So my customers are usually treated well and get fair deals.

I would gladly subscribe to OnStar for five years if they could find the car. They tell me it can't be reactivated without having the car at the dealer. I am still working on this and have recruited a knowledgeable dealer to help me. Hope to know more Monday. I fear the trail has gone cold.

If any of you live in "bill of sale only" states, your help would be greatly appreciated. I may need help getting titles some of my HAMB friendly cars that were last registered by owners that are now deceased.

here is the latest: we did not get much cooperation from the authorities, so we had to take the bull by the horns. Through the help of our friends in the hobby and the understanding of the good folks that sold us cars, we were able to get most of the titles replaced. We had a few challenges, but are on the last couple now. I had a couple of late model trailers on MSO's and both companies are bankrupt, so now idea on that one. We have spent over $6000 to get the keys and titles replaced, so far.

Now for the good news...the insurance company has been dicking us around for almost three months now...and not a penny paid to date. They would not pay for the late model car that was stolen unless we could provide them with a title. As the original was stolen, we went back to the auction that sold us the car. They were so helpful and offered to get a replacement for us. A few days later, they called and said that the car had been re-titled a about three weeks prior. WHAT!!!??? Yup, the system didn't work to well, did it? We were able to obtain name/address on the new title and sent the authortities (took them three days), they found the car, but of course the person in possession was NOT the person on the title. They found the titled owner, but he knew nothing of a theft. He just bought the car from some dude and bought it cheap to flip it. Yeah right! They busted these guys on many counts, mostly drug related. They are NOT going to press charges for auto theft, as the system in Chicago is overloaded with auto theft charges. No interview, no knowledge of the titles/keys. Nothing.

Now another thirty days have gone past. The car was FINALLY picked up by the insurance company, but we can't provide them a good title, as it was retitled and the dipshit won't sign off on it. So we haven't been paid a dime, don't have any info as to who the perps are and all it has done is piss me off. In the end, I bet the insurance company wants to pay about 70% value on the car and they will end up cancelling us.

Thanks to those that have helped us. PLEASE buy a safe and keep your important papers and extra keys locked up. I have learned a hard lession on this one.

As one dealer to another Bob, I know how horrible it would be if I lost all my keys and titles. Some you just can't replace on the older stuff you buy off the street that hasn't been titled in years or out of state. The auctions have been great for me the couple times I have had title issues. They keep great records of past sales. Far as my titles....they would have to get past my bulletproof security system first and after being broken into 3 times, I can promise you my shop is not easy to get into without the alarm going off.

Just remember, the law is there to protect the guilty. I have found that out more than once.

Damn, that is alot of Bullshxt your having to go thru, damn thieves, systems set up to work for them, Insurance company is your buddy until it's time to pay up. WTF is the deal with the state titling, I thought if the car is reported stolen, it reverts back to the last title issued, which would have of been yours, down here you just go to the tag office and pay a duplicate title fee, plus quick title fee and they print it out right then.
Hope everything works out for you! Friggin Thieves!!!
