1630 miles @ 8mpg @ 3:85/gallon plus 5 motels nights, plus many many meals and then RAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh well, that's drag racing I suppose.
Hey Brian,,you know the old saying...."**** happens"...Ross called me wed to ride up with him ..glad I was unable to go....
Gas in Bowling Green was "only" $3.41 per gallon and only slightly more expensive then that in KY and IN. Michigan back up to almost $4.00 per gallon.
$3.59 here but either way it's a lot of money. All in the sake of drag racing though so it'll get you for money some way or another!
So let's say you didn't get rained out. Don't know how many runs you usually make or your approximate elapsed times, but just for argument's sake what would be your total track time, the time you actually spent racing? 30 seconds? A minute? Two minutes? Oh yeah, and the better you do, the less time you actually spend racing! Just one of the many reasons drag racing has never made a lick of sense to me. But hey ..... it's traditional!
Seeing as how Brian has a cackle car his daughter gets plenty of seat time but I can tell you from personal experience that the less time that it takes you to get down the track the more fun it is. Roo
$250 diesel, $350 hotel, $500 to feed and quench the crew, 25 gallons of M5 meth**** $175....having a beer and shooting the sh*t with Jungle Pam and Bruce Larson at the Holiday Inn bar, priceless. The Days Inn parking lot bar wasn't bad either.
OMG, I just realized I was talking to Jungle Pam in the lobby of the host hotel after the banquet and I didn't realize it was her till Dave just posted the photo.
Yes, especially since it's not like me NOT to introduce myself but I was standing there with Earl Schieb and this older gentleman walks up (carrying an award) and put it down on the ledge right next to me. We started talking and I introduced myself to him and when the rest of his "party"/race team walked up and we all started talking in a group I didn't bother introducing myself to everyone else......Pam and Bruce Lawson being two of the others that walked up......damn, damn, damn.
Bruce Larson, 1925-2008: Pastor hailed as 'thinker and visionary ...NO - THAT's NOT IT From PA came drag racing's "Mr. Clean," Bruce Larson. Larson's first fliptop F/C was a Logghe ch***ised Chevy powered Camaro (which he still owns) in 68 which set the world on fire with a then unheard of 7.41 ET. In 72, Larson's then new mini-Camaro F/C burned to the ground; mindful of the ever present specter of fire, he retreated to the Pro Stock ranks through 75. Larson returned with an ex-JJ Monza to the alcohol ranks in 75, upgrading back to the nitro ranks in 76. Pictured Vette was debuted in 79 (sporting it's infamous "USA-1 Survives TMI" 3-Mile Island rear window mural) and continued to run as shown through 1982 when this shot was taken. Larson went on to become NHRA F/C World Champ in 1989... a well deserved and popular victory! (Photo by David Hapgood) <HR>
