Of course it started raining when I was almost home...but that's ok, the car didn't melt. This thing is a bit rowdy, compared to the boring old Rambler I've been driving a lot lately. But it's still OK at 70, I didn't notice anything really new. It's always had some noises/shakes/vibrations at speed, they seem about the same to me. Let's go for a little ride:
3.89 gears, Gear Vendors overdrive, 2500 rpm at 70. Yeah, it works nice. Smooth as a lumpy gravy sammich, really...
With the impossible to classify Frank Zappa added to the mix (thanks for the ride along OP) this subject really is all over the place.
You're speedo is just like mine in my 64 Ranchero, get over 60 and it starts bouncing around. I've lubed the snoot out of the cable and it still does it.
I went on a 500 mile journey last Saturday on my beaded and weighted lumpys...my fronts had about 16psi in them...rears 18...I pumped them up to 24psi all around before the journey...air pressure is truly a science experiment...as the rides we have are all over the map with total vehicle weights...they performed well with some of what I call animation, meaning they are affected by certain road conditions aka filled cracks, center line markings, grooved concrete, detours around ongoing roadwork, general surface conditions, gouged surfaces, concrete barrier narrowed mixed bag of everything lanes...and alongside active trucks and cars...all manageable...there were some used bias plys for sale on chrome reverse at the swap and maybe more but I wasn't buying even though I'd like to replace the fronts...I'm happy that I got a great deal of service from them despite less than smooth performance just over regular highway passing speeds...I may have gotten some really good replacements...the reverse rims were multi fit with a full array of mounting holes not really a chrome reverse I'd run ...That is a lumpy looking record...I remember seeing Zappa on the Monkees and there was stuff flowing over the walls...perhaps lumpy gravy... ...Mike's asking Frank how much weight to gently put on the ole tires... https://www.monkeeslivealmanac.com/blog/category/frank zappa ...He replies this much Mike... Just funnin'...
@squirrel I appreciate you going bias and just treating them as they were in the good ole days...I also look forward to my replacements when the time comes...I suspect the sammich will have more gravy and less lumps...
