    Hey thanks for the front mount info, I have a 56 Chevy 3200 and bought I believe a 1960 292 that is mid mount and was thinking of adding a cross member because I didn't know if the 292 had the blank holes like the later v8s.

    Dang, I've got a Chevy 6 on a stand in the garage right now.

    It's been sitting there for over 15 years.

    Now I'm gonna have to go take a closer look and see what it is.

    Here is a 292 in an S-10 and it has side draft Webers and a roller cam with a Sissell's modified head. It eats a lot of small block V-8's. Fun to see the look of the guy next to me as I pull away.

  9. Norm, that engine is an Aussie Hemi 265 in what is most likely an Aussie Valiant Charger. It ain't no 292 and it ain't no S10 dude.

    Also the master cyl is on the US pass side or the Aussie driver's side.

  15. I had a nice, rebuilt 292 in my 68 chevy stepside with a 55 chevy 3 speed overdrive and the stock gears...prolly 3.73s. It got 17 MPG with the stock carb.
    My son bought it from me and installed a small Q-jet carb on a clifford intake, Clifford 6 into 2 headers and an HEI distributor. He repleaced the O.D. tranny with a 700R4 with lockup converter. It ran hard! I miss it.

    New to this site. Just saw a previous post about the 292... I have a '64 chev K10 4x4 with a 292 bored .60 over with viper headers. Amazing torque... But I wanted to mention Cotton Perry. Google him up. He was a bracket world champion in the '70s running a 292 6 cyl. I used to watch him race on Saturday nights back in Rossville, Georgia. His chevy II "pocket rocket" was incredible.

    I ran a 292 for 3 years currently just pulled it and put a 350 in . the six pulled well up to 6000 and got me a lot of low eleven time slips. the 350 cost less than half to build and got me very low 10`s so if you want to build a six that runs like everyone says bring your check book. I`ve got one for sale if you`re looking

    I put this.... November 8 2016 002.JPG IMG_0001.JPG
    in this..... April 13 053.JPG

    Its not running quite yet, but I could have easily built a real nice SBC stroker for the $$$$ it cost to build the 292. Its .040 over, moderate cam, pistons, lots of head work and will run a T5, 3.73's, Langdon cast headers, Offy 4 barrel intake and a nicely modified Holley 390. It looks really great and is way cooler than any SBC in my opinion....Hoping for around 275-300HP....

  23. They are harder to find than a stove bolt is one reason, they are also physically bigger than a 235 so the guys who only know paint and bondo are at a loss when they have to put something not stock in their '53 Chebby. Hell most of them are at a loss when they want to replace a 216 with a 235. LOL

    I shoved a 292 in a '41 Chevy truck in the '70s. It was a good mill and I would do it again if I had the option.

    I.ve got one in my 41 Chevy coupe (avatar). Its VEEEERY torquey, almost too torquey, but not very fast.

    Specs;

    It's got a Clifford hydraulic cam part number 92-4021. 0.518 lift with 1.75 ratio. 264 adv dur. .050 dur. RPM idle to 4500. High torque design, ideal for daily driver applications. Peak HP at 4300 rpm. Peak torque at 3300 rpm.

    ---Block rebuild info;

    Bore and hone .030, Decked block, Jet wash and micropolish V8 crank.
    Resurface head (don't know how much), multi angle valve job, modified head for larger valves (1.94 inch intake)

    Holley 4 barrel 390 with electric choke. Offenhouser intake. Langdon's split, cast exhaust manifolds. Dual exhaust through Smitty's.
    1988 Camaro world class T-5 5 speed tranny with S10 tail housing. Rear axle from 2008 Colorado with 3.73:1 gear.

    Nash, how did you deal with the 390 on the offy? Mine is sitting 90deg to motor. did you need to make custom throttle linkage brackets?

    Used a 292 in a 3/4 ton Chevy flatbed to tow my dirt track car. Used to call it the chicken truck because when I got the truck it had a freezer on the back and they hauled frozen chickens.
    Loved gas. Towed my 3500 lb Malibu and trailer no sweat.
    That white smoke could be a modulator if it is an automatic.

    people are right about the cost of getting decent hp,good gas mileage,6000 rpm danger zone. I have gone back to the 292 in my altered cause I blew up the 350 v8. the 292 run 11.30s. the 350 ran 10.16 for half the investment. the v8 went 5 rounds and used 5 gals of gas. the six uses 1/2 gal per pass. the six draws a lot of looky loos.specially with two afbs on top. your choise

    Yes. I used the locking bar from an old toolbox I got rid of. Cut and bent to shape then bought off the shelf throttle cable that comes through the firewall and makes a 90 degree turn towards the driver side and through the bracket.

    Had a 67 pickup with a stock 292 with a limited slip and 4 speed. In compound gear I could ease into the brakes and bring it to a stop without disengaging the clutch and at idle it word sit there and slowly turn both wheels. ON PAVEMENT!
