who cares about those tires----those are some of the most coveted wheels in the country and I have a friend who needs them. Want to sell them?

  10. Finally,

    Someone opened their eyes.

Freind of mine gave them to me............................................................................................

To BORROW. He only has 6 of them. I am gonna use them for some mach up work. Been trying to buy them for 3 years now!

They are special because they are 18" factory steel wheels with a non-6 lug bolt pattern

  13. ooh.. okay learned something new... right on :D

  14. 18" factory wheels from Ford with a 5 x 5 1/2 BP. Only offered as an option, very few were ordered. The package was for HIGH clearence for running the fields and backcountry. Every Salt flat racer worth a grain of sand had em, now nearly impossible to find. they only sell for about $600 and up each:eek::eek:

  15. I have BIG ASS white walls for rollers on my tank project. They are also double whites inside and out. :) 7.00x18's

  17. Dude, you didn't have to go there, really. Please remove.

    Love it!

  19. I think these are the biggest I've seen in person, on the GM Futurliner. Especially impressive with the dual front wheels.

Those wheels are cool for sure. I tryed to find 2 for a project i was doing,
found these instead. They're from a Crysler 300 trunk, space saver rims.
Found 1 at a junk yard for 10 dollars and bought one new from dodge for
130 bucks, there 18x4.5. I wanted to weld the holes up but never did.
Might be a good alternative. You will need the part number off the rim from actual 300. The chargers have 17's.
Sorry about the VW there on.

Notice the tires are mounted with the whitewalls to the inside in the OG post....because even the guy who originally mounted them knew that WWW on 18" Kelsey-Hayes accessory wheels looks like ass......

  27. Those on E-Bay are 17" with 6 lugs. Very different than the Ford high clearence 18's that are proper for post war LSR cars.

I know it probably doesn't matter to most, and most people who know these wheels know what someone means when they say it, but I don't know why people call them Divco wheels.
They are accessory high clearance wheels for Fords, also called desert wheels or milk truck wheels.
I've never ever seen one on a Divco, or heard of one being on a Divco...

I'd love to find a set, though...

  29. I first became aware of them in 1980. A pair was on the Original Goldenrod streamliner my buddies and I from Lincoln, Nebraska were running at Bonneville. Tommy Thompson owned the car at that time and always refered to them as Milk Truck wheels.
I suspect the Milk Truck ID morphed into Divco over the years as the Divco trucks became popular, but as Carter correctly pointed out, they were made by Kelsey Hayes for Ford trucks. Other brands also had optional 17" and 18" wheels, but the bolt pattern and design of the center stamping were diffirent than the Ford design.

  30. Yeah, I know that they were an Option that Ford offered. I actually know where some real Divco trucks are parked with extra wheels. But in most cases the true Divco wheels are split rim and utilize much larger studs and a different bolt pattern.

I only referred to these as "Divco" wheel as that seems to be the most common name they are currently called. Also note that in my earlier posting I referred to them correctly as "Ford High Clearance" wheels.
