I put one in mine, you need the cam, lifters, shorter pushrods, correct valve springs, timing chain set with the thrust washer and a ****on for it. Also make sure what type of distributor gear you need for the cam you install, some need a br*** gear, others don't.

I spent about a grand on that deal....but having eaten up a few flat tappet cams, it was worth it in the long run.

Seems that the block isn't cast the same in the valley area, the lifter bores are taller on a roller block, and they're machined on top to let the "dogbone" retainer fit properly.

But apparently you can use the factory roller cam and retainer plate.

Make sure you use the right distributor gear

you can find short deck blocks, in 3500 series trucks and smaller, the C-60's usually had tall deck blocks. those you dont want. block is.400 taller and intake is different, pistons have 4th ring as well. i believe mark IV blocks were made till early 80's. good choice for hp and torque without having to overbuild the engine.when refering to ports, were talking about intake ports on the cylinder heads, oval ports flow better at lower rpm's rectangular ports like higher rpm's . as the men before me stated, 9.5 or 10:1 comp is good for pump gas, 550 lift will work great and be very dependable. 454 for sure, long arm crank = rotating m*** = torque .good luck
