Not a Chevy, but a BUICK NAILHEAD. Mounted in a stock measurment A frame running a stock hood. Had to reverse the firewall and recess it about 4 inches behind engine. A Friend is doing one with a 409, reversed firewall as well. Mounted in a TCI ch***is. Maybe some help.
Why not? How is it different than any other V-8 people stuff in em? I got a full tilt roller cammed 454 on the stand in my shop. I have been thinking about it myself. Naah, I'll save it for my "Deathproof" elcamino project.
Well.................you said Big Block...............and there is nothing like a Big Block Hemi in a Model A to bring on those "goose bumps"!
Got so excited that I forgot the picture.....................also added a picture of the "First BBC" in A Coupe and SBF 351C in 32 Roadster for good measure. The 351C is an exdrag motor pushing the rear wheels to around 550HP.
31 A on 32 rails roadster. 462" Buick (late 455) T-400. 56" wide Ford nine inch. 4" Firewall recess Remove the heavy intake and exhaust manifolds and replace the intake with an aluminum one. The Buick then weighs 15# more than an SBC. Plenty of legroom with the 4" firewall recess. Interior pics if you like. Don't set the engine up too high. 6" - 7" pan sump clearance is plenty on the street. Measure the sump clearance on some stockers and you'll be surprised. No reason to set the engine so high the carbs stick through the hood. If they have to due to blower height that's ok, but don't toss out good handling for a cosmetic effect. Note as well the fairly small transmission hump and driveshaft tunnel. Set the engine high and you loose a lot of footroom and legroom. My 32 roadster has the same drive train sitting at the same height and no problems in regular driving, speed bumps, driveways and some dirt roads. Handles good on the corners.
Here's a local A Coupe with a 1200 horse big block http://s148.photobucket.com/albums/...20car craft/?action=view¤t=a040ac00.flv And a couple years ago when it broke the dyno straps at the Car Craft Nationals: http://videos.streetfire.net/Player.aspx?fileid=F7E28C73-B479-4E01-80A7-84DD5976EF03
I have a 427 Chevy in mine, Ill take some pics tonight for you. Just a 4" recess firewall, small hump for a 5 speed, no tunnel. With the radiator in the stock location there is no room for a decent fan. I will move it forward an inch or so next time its painted. And even with blockhuggers they burn the side panels. I run just the top of the hood. Steering is tight with one heim in the middle.
Hre my 31 Olds with the 455 Olds bored .60 over. I have not driven it as of yet but the engine has been rebuilt. I think it will be quick enough. BC
Had a BBF 460 in my old one then it got supercharged. Here's the last pics of it when it was on E-Bay the last time, man that thing get around.
I agree with C-9. The engine should sit as low as possible. If I ever add a blower, I will still be able to see out of the chopped windshield. BC
ive cot a clevland in mine 32 rails 31 roadster reversed firewall by old beet and k-member trieng to post pics i guess im a tard though jeffrey
I've got a BBF 428 in mine, hard to cool in the middle of summer and hard to hold straight when U get on it...
click each pic for a bigger version The hump is very small almost flat floor Mines a highboy chopped 4 " The front is so close all I can use is a ****py flex fan. With http://evanscooling.com It keeps cool even in 115 degree weather standing still the back could be a hair closer The steering is the tightest, stock manifolds would probably fit inside the hood sides, these fit but burn through a little It sits low in the stock heavily boxed frame, the pan is about 4 inches or so from the ground. I rarely s****e it and only on huge speed bumps or really steep driveway angles Its a 427 chevy with a mild cam and single 4 barrel. It has a 5 speed richmond and a 2.8 gear 9inch rear. I like the gearing for the highway because I take it every year all over the midwest. Its real torquey and can start in 1st or second easy and third if you wanted to. The A is so light it just spins from a start and with the locked rearend can be real exciting. It feels like the cam is kicking in around 70 or 75, it just wants to take off at that speed like your standing still. Not that I ever drive that fast
Years ago, I was walking through my neighborhood when I lived in Pomona. There was a '31 with a 427 Ford and 4 speed. Got to talking to the guy and he took me for a ride. Put a strain on the Depends!!
Sorry if this is a stupid question but what is the purpose of the hose connecting the valve cover and exhaust manifold? I cant say I've seen something like that before.
