Nice, the long sedan delivery rear panel balances out the long nose.

I'm voting for that sedan delivery look. Nice balance, different, functional, cool.

I think it's a beauty as would most of the guys in the car club I'm with. I say find a nice paint scheme and drive it.

I've got to be honest. When I opened this thread I thought that nothing could make a 1948 Chrysler 4-door look good (I know some of you have different opinions on that) but man, that Sedan Delivery rendering has me thinking. It's a pretty decent look and as mentioned, it kind of balances out the front end. I never would have thought of that. Maybe this thing can be cool!

WOW! Thanks for all the replies and photo shopping. Lots to think about. I like to keep it simple so the 2 door and the delivery are out. They look great but too much work. Going out to the shop today to get stared on it. Need to make up my mind about the rake or lowering the rear. Really like both looks but will have to go one style.

Alright just came in from the shop. Here is the plan. I want to keep it simple so I can have it done by before spring.
I am going to shave all the trim except the side grill bars and the beltline trim and door handles. I will paint the the grill between the three grill bars. That means all the hood trim as well as the rear fender trim and all the read deck trim. The front bumper will need to be refitted to match the fenderwell shape. I will use either steel wheels or some chrome wheels with babymoons.
I am trying to finish this car for under $9,000. That leaves me about $4000 to do the bodywork, paint, interior and other misc stuff. It can be done because it all ready has a 400 small block and auto trans in it and the brakes are done. It also has the wiring in it just needs to be finished up.
The frame is already painted red so I will have to work a red pinstripe into the paint job. That is why I was thinking white over dark silver with a red pinstripe.
Well that's the plan. Let's see if it goes that way.

Just for comparison sake, here is another '48 Chrysler.
Custom padded top and white wheel trim rings, used in the late forties to dress up the black walls.
You could call it,"The Long Ride Home" :D

Well I stared on it Friday.
I drained the old gas and gave her a good tune up. Now she runs great. Was doing burnouts in the shop.
I welded up all the holes in the rear and did the body work. I think it will look good. Sorry for all those that wanted the stock pieces on it. I will start on the hood Sunday.
Here are the before and after pics.

I know you've started dechroming it, but the first thing that came to mind was a BOMB. Very popular in Socal at one time. All the stock chrome, accessories, slammed hard, usually on hydros, dark colors.

Big day for the Big Ugly. All metal work is finished and the body work roughed in. I welded up 59 holes, made new rocker panels to do away with the big peice of trim on the bottom of the car, shaved and added a peak to the hood. All in primer. Now a lot blocking and fine tuning left to do. I am trying to have it painted before I have to go back to work on the 6th of Jan.
I have already had the bumpers, bumper guards, hood bird, door handles and some interior trim pieces rechromed. If you need any chrome work done close to Nashville let know. This guy had them back in 2 weeks.
Here is pics of the progress.

Well after 2 weeks of non stop work, it finality is painted. I thought that my panel van was huge but I think this one has more area. It has a little more trash in it then I like but I will wetsand it and reclear it. Came out pretty good and the body work looks great.
Man I sure am tired. Looks like it's time for a cold one.
    A few pics.

    BOOM.

    Awesome result.

What's that color called? I want to paint my '36 pretty much exactly that shade (if I ever get it finished :( ).

Hey Coolhand. That color is a 2010 Hyunda color called Mirabeau Blue. It said to shoot it over a white sealer or base but I used a black sealer to darken it up some. Really came out good and pops in the sun.

I like the color, I thought I had posted on your thread earlier and suggested a visor to shorten up the look of the front, maybe I just thought it but didnt post.
......not that you would have liked that idea anyway,I just thought I posted it:confused:...:)

Glad you went for blue and not silver....

This thing is begging for a level stance.

Thanks Low. I don't know about the visor, I do like them on some cars. Maybe someone can photoshop one on it. I am allways apperceptive of all the suggestions that I get and do use alot of them. In the end it is the style of car that I am going after.
So please everyone keep up the suggestions on my post. I may not use them but they allways do get me thinking. I donot get my feelings hurt.

I thought that delivery version looked pretty good. It made me wonder what a fast back would look like, so I did this sloppy, quick drawing. 'Thought it might go good with that long front end.

Then I read through the rest of your thread and saw all the work you've already done to it. It really looks good! I especially like the color.

What the heck. I'll throw the picture up here anyway.

Maybe put a 1949 Cadillac fin on top of the stubby rear fender?

I like it, not a fan of that grill though. needs smoothies with white walls with bullet center caps, slammed on the ground, gloss black with a excessive raked chop top, "bullet" grill maybe off a 1956 Cadillac, "fishtail" tail pipe ends with gl*** packs and flame throwers, dark red fur headliner a chrome strip down the windshield to give a split effect with a cool car club plaque on the back.

    I like it!
The front end reminds me of childhood bumper cars. Great look. I would think about chrome strips on the rear of the rear fenders. Accentuate the look that's already there with more chrome.
    Nice ride!

I don't know what tire wheel combo to go with yet 51. I will have to get it in the bigger shop now and semi put it together and have a good look at it. Have to see what wheels I can find cheap. This one is on a tight budget.

A little progress on the big girl.
It is now recleared and ready for cuttin and buffing. But that will be the last thing that I will do to it.
I have taken the front cap off and the frame and firewall are now ready for paint. Also the motor is out and ready too be painted. Just have to wait for a warmer day.
Since it is too cold to paint I have started on the interior. I have the bottom of the front seat put together and will be working on the rest this weekend.
I know everyone likes pics so here are a few.
