Yeah...our club, and caravan loved the drive as well....That's why, when Billitproof was there, we went the scenic route, instead of the interstate, up there and back, and got there a day early for the pre-party, and hotel scene, and drove back the day after for a nice morning drive.

We aren't afraid of a hundred mile run either. That's why we go to a lot of shows in the Sarasota and Bradenton areas, and made the first two Billitproofs. The difference is, we, for the most part, don't have nice, big, comfortable cars with disc brakes, radial tires, a spare tire, and drivetrains that you can find parts for at the local parts store. If something goes wrong with Studebaker, hemi, or flathead engines on the road, it's a little harder.

I think people are misunderstanding what I wrote....I don't care what they call the show...It could be "Jungle-Bob's Field of Butt-Rape Show" but if it's a bunch of crap that shows up (or butt-rape), I won't be too excited about participating in it next time.

Also...The old saying "Don't judge a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes" well...until you've driven hundreds of miles in a cramped hot rod, with a dual carb'ed V8 with zoomies roaring in your face, and buggy springs, skinny bias-plies, and friction shocks transmitting every bump in the road to your spine.......It's hard to say what you would do.

Like I said....I just would hate to be turnned away because of a full lot.

  3. This argument is never going to go away is it? I understand not wanting to drive cross state only to get turned away at the show because its full. I also somewhat understand not wanting to be associated with a really crazy show that has more "shock or rat rods".... on the other hand who cares what other people are driving or showing? To be honest just living in FL gives us all a bad name automatically to a certain extent b/c of some of these stupid "art" pieces. (I've never understood that b/c I've seen plenty of the same cars from shows out west and up north) Anyways the only way we can change that is to show up at every car show and show spectators what real hot rods or customs are. Hopefully eventually this "craze" will drop from our hobby once people see real deal cars.

I hope this doesn't offend anyone b/c I don't mean it to. I personally don't care what people drive to shows b/c I'm not the one seen in it... lol But I well say this at least they are driving them. Which is what it's all about.

He doesn't charge for autographs from what I have seen last year only on items he sells....example I bought over 150 pistons and rods from his dragsters....tailgate of his truck, all the wheels and tires off his drag pak challenger.

The guy owns quite a number of records with 50 plus years of 1/4 mile runs....

We have him coming to an event in Mid May in Bowling Green, KY.....

I plan on making the ride down there in the 56...My thing is Im not gonna bash any man for how his car looks (Im not a "rat rod" fan at all) BUT...I just make my cars look exactly how I want and thats what makes it mine.

I dont know what kinda shows you like to go to but I have never experienced anything like the Turkey rod run in Daytona. That place is just crazy for the weekend.

  14. I like all types of cars, but Daytona is kinda over the top and impersonal... I go, but I spend most of my time with friends and walking the swaps... I haven't walked the show grounds in years.

if you are a HAMBer you know your gonna go out there and find something you like and some body you can hang out and bs with without some mullet waring tool coming around telling you how his 73 mustang with new 10" Crager SST's will beat all over you skinny tired car. If the name bothers you that much, take it easy. I've heard that the powers that be are aware of this. If and when I hear more I will post it. But now is a little late for name changes.

I would rather support this show than that other show in Forida. Big Daddy was more than a host we our little club from Detroit came down for a visit. Lets bring "sins of steel" to Florida. We already brought that other show there. Visit www.sinofsteel.com if you want a real car show ran by real people. Come on Florida poor boys lets make some noise.

    As if that's important...

Actually he was across from us at the California Hot Rod Reunion, and the poor bastard must have signed 1000 autographs a day. He'd do 10 in 10 seconds :)

  24. The only time I saw him was at a show in PA years ago. He was signing his posters...ONLY... if you purchased it at his booth right then. He had nothing to say to anyone in fact he did not even look up at the buyers and did not appear to be in a very good mood, maybe sales were down a little. But then again give him a break, it's hard work signing your name hundreds of times a day at $10.00 a pop.
Yes he has more than earned his fame, but don't do the supporting public like that. :(

Don was always gracious and accommodating to myself and Billetproof guests. He spent more than a little bit of time making sure that the show went well and that anyone that asked got an autograph or heard a cool racing story. He brought out a some of his cars and fired them up for the crowd. Both he and I agreed that Billetproof had outgrown his facility and it was in the show and his best interest that it be moved.

Don is also aware that Billetproof will be back on its mid/late March date next year. I've let him know that its really not in the best interest of both shows to have them competing. Its bad for the shows, bad for the participants and bad for the traditional hot rodding scene in general. There is plenty of enthusiasm to support The Rumblers show, Billetproof and Big's show, so there is no need to try and double book the shows. In fact if all the shows work together they will all benefit. I hope he understands that.
