To be honest I'm not exact on the number, but it's right at 5000, maybe 4800. Not drive, 2nd gear. 40⁰ was just out of curiosity. I haven't yet but I'm gonna drop it back down to 34-36 for my trip across the state. I'll probably run the car in the 1/4 mile race on August 12th, but other than that I'm done lol. It's like arguing with momma, not gonna get me anywhere. But it's been fun finding out how slow it is! I'm admitting defeat with the 283, now I'm curious to see what it'll do with the 454ish.

 

Top of second is good. One more thing that is common in this age, even when dealing with 60 year old cars. Stick your phone so it can see the speedo and tach and record. It will if nothing else help you fine tune your own recollections. When the BB goes in, someone outside at the line should record chassis reaction, tire wrap, etc. Then you can compare their memory against the camera too.

 

Last I knew... Scotty had a 396 crank that he was "Motivated" to sell... Maybe that's changed.

 

You don't need cranks, new pistons or a machine shop, what you need sir are these magical valve covers that are gar-un-teed to change that itsy bitsy baby pinky mouse into a giant Fink daddy monster rat.
Now ya see ... I have one pair, that's right folks this is the last of the dieing breed and they could be yours for a mere $2500 dollars.

It'll fit in the 283 because if you divide 396 by 8 and 283 by 8 you can clearly see that 8 is the common number !

427's have Big Block torque combined with Small Block RPM's. Just something to think about...

 

What ever you do, make sure you use a steel crank. I’ve broken 3 cast cranks in 3 different 454s.
