Congratulations, that’s sounds like a fun road trip. You plan 100’s of cars in your head, but you get plan on for real, a lot more exciting and expensive. Have fun with it.

  6. Lloyd you're lucky for finding your dream car, now you have to get off your ass a build it before you get too old!:D I had an opportunity to buy my dream car recently (67 Vette coupe) it looked good from 10 feet but bird cage was rusted away:mad:

  7. Let's see, dumped in the front, black, tri-power, tonneau cover and 4 scavenger pipes out the back........ done!
A kid in my high school had one (1964), made a definite impression on me. I'll be following along.

Congrats! I have always loved those El Caminos! Back when I was in my first year of college, I worked at a body shop for a while and the main painter had a 60 that we moved around a lot. He typically poured lacquer thinner in the carburetor to start and move it...

And, lots of good guys up there in the Tulsa area as Duncan mentions. Who are you actually getting the cab from? Maybe Travis?

Oh man! My dream car is a tri-five Handyman, which you already have. And now you've gone and bought a 60 El Camino, which is in my top five.

I offically hate you. You can have your damn cards and roses back! :D:D:D

When are you going to get your Hell Camino? Nothing like a road trip.
If you need help setting up the straight axle I have done dozen's of them.
With your new project will we still be able to squeeze the Comet in before spring ? I don't want you to have to commit to something that will put more stress on your time.

  20. Congrats! I too have been looking for a 59 or 60 Elco.

  21. Always loved El Caminos! My favorite was a '70 with a 454. Damn thing would get stuck in frost...

Doing some reading and found that the 60 impala has a 64" wide rear end. Is there a go to replacement for these or are they able to hold up to some abuse?

  24. I prefer the 59, but there are some really nice 60's running around here. Can't wait to follow your progress. Congrats....

This should help you pick out a replacement rear end

A ‘93–‘97 f body is pretty dang close. I a ‘95 rear out back I’ll double check. You’ll have to cut a bunch of stuff off, but should trip over them in pick and pull yards

These are x frame cars with coil springs. may be a little harder to find a rear axle. some later models had 12 bolt rears.
