    But back to Lloyd's car.

Man, if I were closer I'd be there to help. As it is I'll just have to see it at LF-III.

Ladder bars and track bar are done. Now I've gotta put drag car shit in my street car to run in street class lmao...

The track is gonna see all that and say it's a race car. Then they'll really scrutinize! Lol.
Ladder bar setup is looking great.

  6. Now to be clear my comment about adding "race car" stuff was really geared towards the 5 point harness.
If you rolled in with a stock looking lap belt they'd probably think nothing about the car other than it was an old forgotten car that someone was resurrecting that's going to run a 16 second time.
5 point says, hey this guy is splurging for a 5 way safety harness, wonder what he's got in here that makes him buy that, let me take a thorough look to see.

Question for the professionals, my rear is an 8.5 10 bolt from a early 70's Camaro. It has a 3.73 posi. When I put the studs in it, I put it on jack stands, took the right rear wheel off and started changing the studs, I could turn the axle by hand and the drivers side tire turned in the same direction. Finished that side, put the when back on, and went to the left. Pulled the wheel, but I had to use the hammer handle in the studs to turn the axle. And the right side tire didn't turn. I have noticed a popping when I roll the car by hand. Drove the car probably 700 miles with no issues. I put Lucas gear oil in the rear end that said it was for limited slip. Ever had this happen? I picked up a bottle of friction modifier today to add, but I wondered if anybody else had any info. It still spins both tires.

Sounds like you may have worn posi clutch plates and frictions. Worn springs. Could also have worn cones for the pinion gears too. For peace of mind it might be time for a refresh.

No i think it's time for a 9" Ford lol

  13. Sounds like maybe the brake shoes have a hold of the drum maybe due to a little tight spot just enough to hold it in place requiring the extra effort of the hammer handle to get it to turn at all. Maybe back off the shoes on that side just a bit and try it again?

I have them backed off, everything turns free on the right side. No drag on the brake, I can tell it's in the posi unit. I'm gonna beat the hell out of it until it gives up or i put a 9" in it. Lol

Have you tried turning the driveshaft by hand? Does it spin relatively easily or take a ton of effort? Do both tires move?

Yeah when I put the new driveshaft in. Didn't seem to be an issue, none that I noticed anyway. I just moved the car from my yard to the driveway, and when I pushed the clutch in to start it, it rolled back, and done the popping thing. I'm gonna put the additive in it tmrw while I'm at the firehouse and see if anything changes over the next few days. Still gonna run the car this weekend either way lol. Throwout bearing is asking to be changed too.

I use to repair c65 chevy quick response firetrucks that had posi rear ends, they would make a popping noise until we added special GM posi unit additive. That took care of the noise.

  19. In the past when installing a new posi we would put the additive in with the new gear oil then once finished put it on jack stands fire it up and put it in gear let it roll the tires for several minuets. That mixes the 2 together real good. We never had the noises at all. Of course, once you install a Spool there's none of that to worry about and they are cheaper than any posi parts. Food for thought.

  20. Try the additive Lloyd, let it work in a bit and see how it acts. Not much $ to try it. You may get lucky buddy.

I put it in there today, drove the car around in the parking lot at the firehouse. Hopefully it makes a difference. Today is the first day of our new schedule, work 2, off 4. So I don't get out of here until Thursday morning. See what happens lol. I was also noticing a little squirrely feeling at high speed, like on the floor, going through the gears. My camber is at 7⁰, and I thought my toe in was 1/8", so I checked it while I had it in the firehouse, it was dead even. I gave it 3/16 toe in. See if that changes anything.

7 degrees camber seems like a lot I would think 1 to 3 would be good.

Oh and I think you want negative camber tops of tires closer than bottom, but I’m not real sure on straight axle cars like yours.

48-96 always seems like cushy job but I'm suspecting it often isn't.
