Hot Rods Big Daddy's 55 2 door wagon gasser

  1. Those spokes, even if proper spindle mounts, are altered wheels, never gasser ones. Here is what you need!

back in the day, that supertuner had better been mounted on a slide mount or you would come out in the morning to find it ripped from the dash

  3. You'd be surprised where you seen 12 spoke spindle mounts if you pay attention to old photos, even seen a photo of them on a funny car

Torq Thrust Originals are what you want if you HAVE to get new wheels.
15x5, same money as the goofy D spoke wheels, and way better looking.

I'm an idiot because I thought that's what I bought lol... I thought the goofy looking wheels were called D spoke. It's my fault. Buying shit to impress people I'll never meet lmao

I’m shocked. I thought everyone knew that you got the best performance from the Panasonic super tuner. Even junk yard parts built car had to have the best tunes. $50 cars with $500 stereos. That’s how we rolled.

edit: OK, I. must be getting old. Was the Pioneer the super tuner and the Panasonic the Electra tuner?

These are the TTs I put on the front of a static project a year and a half ago. Note the caps are different from the original style.

Recently I saw a set of these newer TTs where the guy had machined a flat set of aluminum caps for them. Looked good, he even used straight slot screws.

  14. My Supertuner was slightly newer ('78), so it had a cassette instead of an 8 track. Mine was on a slide mount for two reasons : One because I had two cars & couldn't afford 2 radios at 16 years old & Two I could not afford as many "go fast goodies" in my 1st year of drag racing, so i took everything that weighted anything out at the track! I also added a 40 watt amp velcroed to the bottom of mine...I thought I was in high style then! LOL Believe it or not, I still have it in a cabinet in the office.:D

    God Bless

I drew some up and made a set out of aluminum on the waterjet recently. They are on another HAMBers 40 Ford coupe.

You had it good. It was more like Blatz beer and Born to be Wild when we were cruising.

American Racing Wheels made in China. Deeply disturbing to me and I'll bet a lot of you too:mad:

So as not to stray into the political quagmire I will just say that any of those wheels that I've seen were as high a quality as any others regardless of mfg.

Well that's at least some good news (I think). I was going to ask about the quality.

Lloyd....not to continue to beat a dead horse..but I'd go with these on the front..and any vintage 15x8.5" torq on the rear. Id beadblast the center of the new ET wheels, and dumb down the machine polish on the lips with a red scotchbrite. Id also put some old metal center caps to backdate them too. These wheels in my opinion are the closest looking to the big dollar Crestline 15x4 wheels that bring about $2000 or so. These new ET wheels appear to be $589 a pair at Speedway. I think they're US made too...really cool wagon project!

  26. Hey, just thought I would chime in to tell you how to spend your money….j/k.

  27. I traded around wheels a while back, 2 pairs of his for 1 pair of mine, a pair of those was in the deal, they are nice wheels.

Aside from the different style lug nut...shank vs acorn..they really look like vintage 15x4s...price is right too compared to vintage Crestlines or others..

Let me help with the wheel thing here, Lloyd.
The modern Torque thrust 2 is a newer version of the Torque Thrust that was created in the 60's to compensate for the space needed on the then new disc brake calipers that started showing up in the mid 60's. Not to imply the first design, straight-spoke Torque Thrust won't clear discs. Some do, some don't. Anyway, the straight spoke ones were everywhere, the redesigned ones for discs not so common, unlike now, where everyone has them.

The Aluminum 12 spoke with 5 lug holes is a modern interpretation of the 60's spindle mount 12 spoke magnesium
Halibrand that was too light for a full size car. Commonly used on Altereds. The new ones were created to let the Gasser guys sorta have the Altered look. Makes no sense to me. If you just look at period pics from the 60's, you soon find out, there never were any 12 spokes with lug nuts, and the spindle mounts wouldn't handle the weight of a '55 Chevy on the street.

Look before you leap. Wheels are sooooo critical on these cars.
