Hot Rods Big Daddy's 55 2 door wagon gasser

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Lloyd's paint & glass, Jul 1, 2024.

  1. That’s a bigger cam than my last bracket race camshaft! I never got a ride with that cam when it was running correctly. To put this in perspective, my Nova was 3400 lbs with my fat *** in it. It was a 40 over 350, 12-1 pistons, World Products Sportsman heads, the largest Crane Saturday Night Special hydraulic cam, and a Vic Jr with a 750 DP Holley. 4.10 gears, 4500 converter in a 400 Turbo. This car went 11.90/12.00 every night. Your wagon should run darn close to my Nova.

It could be the old age and not the smaller camshaft…:)

My buddy Creech seen em on Facebook, got me a number. The guy said he has a bunch of 55 parts, but no tailgate lol. He said the inner shells are nice on these doors, just a small amount of rust on the lower skin. I think i know a shop that can weld. I've gotten 2 doors, 2 fenders, and a grille, for $700 :D looks like I'll just order a new tailgate

  11. Sounds like a fun road trip. Are you going alone?

Good deal! I was hoping sedan doors wouldn't be too hard to find. There were a lot of them made. Fewer wagons by a large margin. 1,775,992 Chevrolets were produced in 1955 alone. About 10% were station wagons, excluding Nomads with their unique tailgate. So 55 -57 wagon tailgates are ''rare'' but a couple hundred thousand were made. There has got to be a good one out there somewhere.
18,496 Handyman 150 2 door wagons like yours were built.

Judging by the trim holes you'll be welding up, I would say those doors came from a '55 210.

New tailgate from real deal steel is $1000. But shipping is $350. I wonder if Bill is going to Florida anytime soon lol

So which size.areyou planning to run? Or do plan to use the 30s in the quarter and 28s in the eighth. Changing tires is easier than changing gears even with a 9 inch. BTW what are your plans for the rear slots?

I'm gonna put the 28" slicks on the slots and keep them. I bought the weld wheels and tires just to resale.

Doors.... the p***enger side has a little rust at the bottom of the skin, drivers door is in great shape. Brings me happiness lol. I'm hot on a 47 Chevy fleetmaster! The price is right. Looks solid in the picture I recieved. Contemplating driving over there this morning. Does anybody have some good shoebox fenders? 20250816_160459.jpg IMG_20250816_222932.jpg 20250816_155213.jpg

Dig the chrome slots and cut wheel wells on the shoebox - ft fenders are easy to find and inexpensive (I believe iron trap garage has some) it's the hoods that are unobtainium - thanks to you and this thread I'm looking at this

Is that picture of the doors ln your shop? If so please tell us more about the cl***ic Bronco they are leaning on. Of course you might have to do that in the OT forum. I personally would like to know what is up with the brace and why the dash is off.

  29. Finally got a few minutes to catch up on this thread!

Lots of good stuff happening to the wagon @Lloyd's paint & gl*** .

Same cam that is in Stubby....I can't get enough of listening it idle:p .

Matching wheels with slicks on the other ones is a BIG yes.

Another YES about being in Fla, but told you that already on the phone.

One more transport & then NOTHING until after Lloydfest III. This means lots of hours devoted to Stubby!

    God Bless
    Bill
