Event Coverage Big Olds Big Cross Country Adventure 2009

I found her dazed and confused, wandering around Kansas. ;-) OK, maybe not. I was pulling off at a gas station on my way to the HAMB drags and Denise was pulling out. She waited and we cruised the last stretch to Joplin. I'm sure she'll post an update soon.

 

Yep, I'm in Joplin, MO now. Did 14 1/2 hour drive today.......Trinidad, CO to Joplin, MO all on two laners......160 and 400. Last time I do that thru Kansas.

Going to try to do alittle catching up tonight and tomorrow morning before things get shaking around here.

I'll be sure to keep an eye out if you get to come this way. I would surely like to meet you. After reading this whole cross country adventure, you're my hero. I would love to get in my F100 and head west. Thank you so much for sharing all the great pictures and awesome people you've met along the way.

Glad to hear you are safe and sound in Joplin. Don't even think about the awful drive Sunday or worse...having to get up Monday!

Except they have to deal with living in Kansas the rest of the year.

 

The adventure story left off on Saturday morning Aug 15th. I swung over to Eric's place and picked him up. Poor large Marge, I think she's history. Eric's been talking about making a couch outta her and a wall hanging outta her front end. Will be cool but it will be sad to see Large Marge "gone"


Found a spot right near where I mentioned the Meet & Greet was going to be held. We taped the banner to a pole and a bench.


Jeff AKA Wayfarer stopped by to introduce himself and say hi. Wonderful to finally have the opportunity to meet you. Also, I really appreciate the earlier offer to stay at your place. Really means alot to me.


Eric and I then took a walk to look at cars.....and other stuff

Ran into my old buddy from Art Morrisons and had a wonderfful chat. He was surprised to see me in his part of the country.

 

Stopped by this car to check it out and Morgan (HAMB members wife) introduced herself to me. I was bummed that Morgan and her husband didn't some to the Meet & Greet so I could meet him. Their two children were adorable.




This pond was on the fairgrounds property. After spending the weekend with Eric I'm inspired to step up my gardens in my own backyard. I think a pond is in my future.

By now it's about noon so we head over to the Meet & Greet area. Had a real nice crowd show up


The Inland Emperors then decide to more their cars and display over to this area kinda behind Big Olds

 

HAHAHAH. YEAH! It was all fun and games until Security told us to leave

We checked out this Chevy woodie on the way to lunch


Then headed back to the Meet & Greet area to catch up with some friends from the RRT and Canadian Rodder sites.

We then took another walk around

 

By now it's time to head out and meet up with Chris and Jamie at their place.


Since it was kinda rainy and overcast they decided to take the truck to the BBQ party we've been invited to


We followed them over to Lenny's house where Chris's folks were meeting us as well.

All evening long folks kept arriving


Our host had just finished the build on this roadster






We then grabbed some burgers off the grill.....


...and headed over to sit down. Yes, this is someones home, garage and property. A car lovers dream for sure


After we ate we took a walk around to check out the other guest cars and some of our hosts other cars

I met and chatted with these two ladies that were really interested in Big Olds. Nice gals, wished we lived closer to hang out.
