I thought since the original post, well actually the second post, (the first one was an Aprils Fool joke), got lost in the crash, that I would try to recreate the last update on Big Olds. For those that were at the Round-Up or not on the board at all last weekend you probley have no idea what I’m taking about. Doesn’t matter, this post will catch you up on what’s going on with Big Olds. This will probley be the very last update before Big Olds comes home to me at the end of the month.

Anyway, we worked more on the rear bumper brackets, moving the bumper in much closer to the body and lowering it. The bumper brackets needed major modifications to fit the '47 Chevy rear bumper that was already plated with the bumper bolts welded on and all the holes filled. The palcement of the rear bumper is absolutely perfect as far as I'm concerned.

The next step was tackling the headlite bezels. I really, really, really wanted peaked bezels......so....the sweetheart that Earl Schieb is, he cut off the "beaks" (remember those from the last update?) and brought the peak on the top of the fender out flush with the headlite bezel. Roadstar was then convinced to peak the br*** headlite bezels. Spent ALL day getting them perfect for me. They are now just a few days away from being dropped off at a local chrome plater.

While Roadstar was accomplishing the bezel peaks Mike was giving me a few painting lessons. He explained step by step not only the mixing of the paint but why certain steps, certain products, were used and how/when each step was done. It was very interesting and I learned alot. He then let me spray a few pieces all by myself. Got to clear them too

The next step was to make a splash pan/gravel guard. I had gotten one from HAMBer Rochie but since we moved the bumper so far in the original pan had to be extremely modified. Earl Schieb cut out a cardboard templete and from that templete it was determined that only about 1/3 of the original was going to be used. We decided to use the middle section that has the rib in it.

By this time it was time to clean up and head over to HAMBer Hollywud’s for a housewarming BBQ party. Had an AWESOME time at the party. Sure wished we lived closer to be able to party with the TN PoorBoys more often.

On Sunday morning we left and came home and Earl Schieb finished painting the rest of Big Olds that week. I really liked the original ’61 Olds color called Twlight Mist so Mike took that color and tweaked it abit. He then named the color Concord Smoke. All PPG products were used in case anyone was interested in the brand. Here are a few shots of him and his painted parts.

The near future plans include instal the windows in April along with a white top. Hopefully in May I can get the interior done. Still have lots of chroming to pay for first. :D

It's not THOM's but yeah, that is the car. It's a shame that trim wasn't the same.

Please don't run wide whites on him! He's just crying out for polished Americans with that color.

I knew they were rough, I have a perfect set here at the house. The ones you picked up for me are going to be used as a mold for something extra special/top secret. I'll fill YOU in on Sunday when I come get them. Thanks again sweetheart for going outta your way for me and getting those. xoxoxo

You'll see Big Olds finished in all his glory at the HAMB Drags in Aug.... you will be there right???

Well both THOM and the '48's owner are very generous guys. I wish the trim woulda worked out. Kinda would have been neat to know the car pieces for Big Olds actually came from. Kinda like one big, happy, related family. I'm really looking forward to seeing the coupe in person now. THOM and I never talked about the colors either of the Olds's were going to be painted. Kinda spooky.

I am keeping my Americans incase I wanna change the look but count on Big Olds having WWW on him this summer. In fact, just picked up a set from a buddy of Rudy's tonight. They are pretty rough BUT they will be perfect for burning rubber. Actually got them to put on a set of steelies I have to test fit for size. I'll probley end up with a set of steelies and hubcaps too, just to be able to change the look. After all I am a gurl and I'm allowed to change my mind, it says so in the manual. :D

Thanks sweetie, means ALOT coming from you. Roadstar worked very, very hard on those and they came out AWESOME. Can't wait to see them with a fresh coat of chrome on them.

My plans for this summer include a trip to B'ville. The only thing that might change is if I am one of the contestants in R&C's Ego-Rama. I only have so much vacation time and can't do it all.

No Columbus this year I'm going to hit GG DesMoines instead. Haven't been there before. Going to try lots of new places this year. Come up to Detroit for BilletProof and I'll paint your ride under a shade tree.

There's TONS of primer on Big Olds....a layer of black and a couple of layers of grey......all underneath nice smooth shiney paint. :p

He's says "Hey, ya'll" back
