Here's a quick one from me Denise. I have a few other ideas too. I know the concepts are going to get pretty crazy, so I kept mine simple...

Here's my thoughts....taildragger, white roof, parallel lines of beltline to window opening, chrome reverse(not smoothies) and wide whites.

    Denise,

If you are interested, and able to see this now, there are a pair of 60 series Olds fender skirts out on ebay with a little over 4 hours to go. It is no 10:45 Mountain time on Dec first. Also, if you are interested in the Copperhead color, Truck has the PPG formula posted on it's web site now.

For all you HAMBers who haven't seen my name before and want in introduction, I used to post here a bit, but this is the first time I have taken time to figure out the new board, ( yea, I know, not that hard, just to busy on the house and garage. I should be back here a bit now.

To Just_steve, How are you doing nowdays? I am the guy that used to show you pictures of my 41 Olds when you would work the mag booth in Spokane

Denise, I think your idea is a great one. The choice of Diamond Backs are good as they will put whitewalls on any tire (brand or size) you ask them to.. I did not like the tread pattern on what they offered so I looked around until I found a car tread (not aggressive) to go with the custom look..

I would recommend putting airbags in the rear to get the back end down if you are going to run hubcaps. (as it should be a *** dragger or atleast level) and you can always haul more guys in it that way instead of telling them "no they cant ride".

As for a top color choice.. White is cool but since you love to drive it everywhere it may get dirty real quick, so you may want to think about that thou it would look great with the color you chose and the whitewalls..

I think Hatch's last version is right on thou the top may be tough to do as a folding set up....

Hatch, redo the top in a more stock fashion..(not as a lift off)...

  6. denise, i think big olds is pretty cool now. i can't tell you what to do with your own car, but, i can tell you what i would do with it if it was mine. i like hatches pic, chopped carson style top in white naugahide, lower the rear, big skirts. but a couple of things i might do different is, 55 olds headlight bezels, spotlights, and cad hubcaps. i have a perpetual ***** for cad hubcaps. sombraros, 53's, or 57's. any would look great. I dig your color choice...I've always dug the golds, bronzes, and coppers for rod/kustom hues!

I think Surfmonkey nailed it with the body color top (removable, of course!!)...and the idea of wide whites with Fiesta caps sounds killer to me!!

Looking forward to seeing the changes!! [IMG]

Nothing more important than "The Look"...even if it is hard to keep the top clean, it is what it needs along with the wide whites to balance the whole thing....the chrome wheels give it the needed "shiny" that caps won't.....I tweaked the rear top bows which I'm sure we could do...smooths it off a little more.

I didn't mess with colors at all, but I totally agree with Hatch that the windshield needs to come down a few inches...

Your car is going to make a really nice kustom...

Thanks for all the renderings so far. WOW, lots of opinions, thats for sure! Django's first one comes the closest to what I have in mind thusfar.

    A couple of things:
The top won't be chopped, even though it would look better, it's not in the plans before spring. It is a real folding top NOT lift off. It will be white with a small gl*** back window with about a 2 inch chrome trim around it. I've had white tops in the past and a little Wesleys cleans it up real nice so dirt is not really an issue in my book.

I do have those fender spears that Chad added. I'm not sure whether I was going to put then on or not. What I do plan on putting back on is the stainless beltline trim, which I have.

I am not a fan of fender skirts, lake pipes or spotlites, way to much for my simple tastes. I like smooth and not alot of "doo-dads".

Boones, very rarely do I ever turn a guy down thats looking for a ride. It'll be an ***dragger even without air bags in the rear. [IMG] Although air ride would be awesome, it ain't happening anytime soon, so the rake he has now will be the rake he has in the spring.

I've choosen dark copper for primer and/or paint. The exact shade I don't know. The paint will be a metallic but NOT flake. Django's color is close so is Mike51's.

SmokinJoe, you got any color samples for those?

I guess I don't know enough about steel wheels to tell you what I like and don't like except for I really do know I like the chrome reverse that Hatch posted.

Flat-Top, thanks for the offer and I'll keep it in mind but I think I've got all the parts covered so far.

CurtSix, you got the look nailed if I was going for a lift off top. Can you throw some color on that?

Sirstude, great to see you here. How's your Olds coming along?

Root, I agree, my Americans won't be going anywhere...... I'm a female and I'm allowed to change my mind whenever I feel like it, right? [IMG]

36couper, isn't cleaning wheels what boyfriends are suppose to do?? [IMG]

Hankcash, per usual, your talents never ceise to amaze me [IMG]

Steve, whatever you have pertaining to Big Olds, I'd be thrilled to get. Would you happen to still have those dagmars that I so foolishly refused to take home with me? [IMG] I know I wanna go to the Hot Rod and Performance show in Indy in Feb but what is the PRI?

DrJ, alot of the body panels still need alittle tweating. That will come with rehanging after primer I hope.

As far as interior, I've had black before and other dark colors. I've always been in the habit of putting the drivers seat forward when I got out of the car to help keep the suns direct rays from baking it. I am not a white/lite interior person. I eat and drink in my cars and allow my friends to do the same. It's not that I abuse my cars, just use them normally. I've had an easier time keeping dark interiors clean then lite ones. Been kind of thinking Copper pleather interior with a mild animal print inserts. I don't want it to be too trendy though as Big Olds will probley only get one interior in my lifetime so this one has to last.

JohnB, I don't know about a kustom soul, my heart says hot rod. I think it might have to do with this certain t-shirt that someone sent me. Every time I wear it, I can't stop thinking leadsleds in the desert [IMG]

Sawzall, that huge, ugly thingy on the front bumper is yours bud, not to worry. I'll ducktape your name to the back of it so I don't forget [IMG]

Cleatus, yeah, sometimes the thought of change just takes alittle time to get use too.

Mercfan got any photos of hubcaps? While they might not give me a *****, I'm sure there are some that I'd like better then others, just not sure what they are.

Thanks for all the input and suggestions, this has been fun. Is Ma ki-ki on holiday?? I'da thought he'd be all over this. Maybe he's sleepin? [IMG]

Thats very sweet of you to offer. I'll be doing all that I can myself. Rudy has offered to help of course, he's starting on welding up a few holes in the convert top header. I'm finishing up cleaning the crude off the other bows, then I'll paint them and get them put all back together so they fold properly. Then the whole folding top ***embly gets but back on so the Mad Pleater can install the top.

If you'd like to get in on the "action" I'd love it, in fact, I think it'd be alot of fun. [IMG] Maybe you and Rudy could teach me and CherryBlossom how to weld. That's what I really wanna learn how to do. We could practice on Big Olds [IMG]

What era did chrome reverse wheels debute?

  25. they start showing up in my old mags about 58 or 59

  26. Here's mine, Dk. Copper with a white top no chop, not as heavy as a carson to lighten up above the beltline, Same stance, same size tires, but WWW, 57 Lincoln caps with bullets, maybe replace trim, but shortened, or custom 1" x 16" br***, chrome plated. fill the door handle holes. Chrome the tailpipe.

    hrlc,

if you decide to go chrome reverse, you might consider puttin' baby moons on them.

Yup...chrome reverse got popular late fifties. The earliest pic I found was Blackies 1955 AMBR winner with reverses and 50 merc hubcaps

You want Dagmars? You got Dagmars. Still sittin' in that same milk crate under the same workbench -- If you plan on using them, I'll box 'em and ship 'em. Actually, you m ight find that they do a good job of tying that front bumper together, even with the big ugly center section.

PRI is Performance Racing Industry show in Indy -- this Thurs-Sat. Big show, all go-fast stuff.

    later,
    Steve.
