Damn! Just braved the bitter cold to go fetch the new issue of Custom Rodder and it ROCKS!! Big Thanks to Rob and the staff for the brake tech article...talk about perfect timing for me...I was just pondering the design of the brake system for my 49 Chev project! On the topic of "oversized" wheels for Kustoms and Rods as addressed by Rob in his editorial, I think that if done right, it looks damn COOL! (As with RF, I also agree that "Spinning Blingers" would look stupid on ANYTHING...and even MORE so on an older model ride, though!) When funds permit it down the road, I'd really like to run cl***ic 5-spoke styled wheels on the Chevy in the slightly bigger than norm sizes currently being offered by Cragar and others. Check out the photo-hack: <img src=http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid99/pfed7c503229e0a92c064958bb2a7df69/f9f095d7.jpg> I dunno about the scale or nuthin'...but this should illustrate what my ride would look like with the chop I want and maybe 18" rears and 16" fronts under it with BSW tires. (Sure, the age-old wide whites on 15s with flipper caps would look groovy too...but I think this lends a more aggressive look to the car without being TOO contemporary or anything.) The hogged-out rear wheel wells were just an idea I wanted to try...to make the most of the wheel swap...I'll have to consider whether or not I'd actually wanna do that to the old gal!
Hey cool man!!!! Run some 22" "dubs" just outside the fenders and then radius and flare the fenders and it'll look just as cool as that new line of big wheel HOTWHEELS! (The company that makes the "Spinning Blingers" musta turned down paying for the full page ad in the magazine.) The best part about any wheels is they come off fast with an air gun.
[ QUOTE ] But stock height is as low as I'd ever want it to be!!! (Michigan roads and such!!) [/ QUOTE ] Amen to that Brutha!!! My car is lowered, (like 4 1/2" or 5" ground clearance) and I have the bashed up headers, cracked oil pan, and dented up mufflers to prove it!
my car is sitting about 4 inches off the ground and hasnt done anything but s****e the bumper a bit then again when i built it everything is above the frame rails and ive driving int all of 2 blocks lol
Dubs, clown wheels, gangster wheels, spinners, whatever you want to call them. I just think that the big oversize wheel trend looks kind of silly, especially on an older ride. Just my opinion.
Hack, It's all about learning angles! Here in Phoenix most of the driveways are much steeper than in MI due to flash flooding and NO ground absorbtion. Just get a big sledge to the curbs at the corners of your driveway and then back out on a really shallow angle and you'll do just fine. BTW - I could tell, by the tail end, that that was a Mich. ride...
If only that poor car knew what it's got coming... It'd rust away ALOT faster!!! BUhahahahahahahahahahahaha! Jay the Gay
