I've booked a room and have plans to go, but I have a question before pre-registering.

As someone who has been to the KKOA shows in Lexington, Hamilton, and Lancaster, where there was less cars than an average cruise night. Is this worth the drive out there now? It sounds like it has grown since moving out west, and the HAMB coverage shows a lot of traditional customs. I just want to make sure this is worth a week off work.

Also, I know it's size and not quan***y, but with the price of gas and hotels anymore, you have to pick and choose.

    Thanks

Last year there were about 1000 cars crammed into Thomas Park...a lot of quality cars were there...this year is the 30th Annual...should be more cars...

Ya can't do much about the price of gas...but hotels/motels in Salina are not that expensive...it's the Midwest, ya know...!!! Salina is a college town...the Friday nite drags are a blast...the whole town turns out for it, held on the old Military runway...the Friday nite motel party is fun, and Jerry's Saturday nite "Tonite" show is ...well....it's...uhm...!!!

I think you'll have a good time...it's worth the trip...it takes us 7 hours from Denver...and we wouldn't miss it...

As for pre-registering...you'll only save about 5 bux...I'll register when I get there...

Thanks, That's what I needed to hear. After the years I mentioned in Lancaster where they only pulled maybe 100 cars. I wanted to make sure it's worth the trip.

AAA has it at 13 hours from my door to the Holiday Inn Express, so....

    Salinas or bust.

Sorry it started the car club and show sence in Salina there. My dad and his buddy had one of the first rod runs in salina in this park 30 years ago.KKOA did start in Wichita.

Alright I have a question for those who will be there. I am planning to have my 50 Merc road worthy for this event. The major thing that is bugging me a little bit is that some people are going to consider it a "... Rod" because I am not going to have anytime to finish or even start to work on the body before the show. I am just thinking about it because of another thread that is going on right now. I am not planning to keep my car looking rough but rather than showing up in a 1997 Expedition I would rather drive this car that has been sitting and rotting away for the past 30 years. I am posting this link of the Merc so it can be seen here. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=402103

Yep, I went to one in Lancaster, OH and it was very sad. The highlight was Normie-poo was there and I got a hug from him. Anyway, the Salina KS KKOA is certainly worth the trip from the mid-west. I think this will be my 3 or 4th year in a row. It's one of my favorites over the summer.

Why are you worrying about what other peeps think?
Besides, those that are true car people know the difference between someone pulling a car out of "hibernation" and starting the build process and someone who has bolted a bunch of **** together and is calling it a done car.

Kustom Kemps of America are about true Hot Rod and Kustoms. You will see vehicles in
all kind of condition. You will see the same car every year with improvement each year.
It is worth the trip and you will fit right in. Hopefully ****o and HvyChvy will be there
with their new Merc projects and their is room for more. Don't forget the HAMB Merc
Gathering and that is going to be kool...

    See ya in Salina....

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

I'll be there again this year. Last year I rented a Harley and put 800 miles on it that weekend. Thats a ton for my rookie ****. This year it will be one of my trucks that get the job. Can't wait. Gary

Thanks Denise I appreciate it but you know as well as I do some people are well I will leave that to myself. Anyway I am always worried about what others think about what I do and even though I should not it helps me to get better at what I do. I am even worst when it comes to my art I feel bad for my wife ............lol...........she is always telling me about this and I shouldn't worry what others think. I have to say she is right and so are the others who keep telling me this but this is who I am. More than anything I just want to be at the show with the Merc.

Well I guess I will see you there so I will be looking forward to meeting you and all of the others from the HAMB :D

Mick thanks for the good words and I am hoping that a few other Mercs in progress will be there I am looking forward to this Merc gathering :D

Two of my favorite Mercs from last year show were from Texas and they were basically
stock but sitting real low with a lot of patina. Guys were around them all day. You will
have a lot of company at the Salina.

    Happy Trails,

Simple solution: Since you are an artist, you can letter the trunk with "It's NOT finished, stupid" or some such...I've seen rusty P'sOS that shouldn't even be on the road have lettered on them, "It IS finished, Stupid." Guess that'd be a sarcastic comment on your part.

FWIW, I don't think you'll find anyone at the KKOA Leadsled spectacular that will even ask you if it's "finished"...

I drove my '55 Caddy last year, with misaligned hood, no park lites, rusty bumpers, bubbled side gl***, oil burning engine and in primer...it got plenty of looks...

Mine's the one in the middle...we had a ball driving to Salina in all three of the Caddy's...

Well Mick I am already getting things in play for the Merc it seems as though I might be going with a later model Caddy Mill from the mid to late 70's. I think it will be a strong enough engine for the car.......lol

Damn R those Caddy's are sick...........I love all three of them can't wait to see them in person :D

I hope to go again this year

I thought the 3 caddies were great, nothing wrong with any of them, hope they had a good time:D

I got a pretty good show car and am showing it , but it seems a lot of expense and not MUCH FUN, way too much work and stress:eek:

come on guys take some not so perfect stuff out and ice down some pop and have fun, life is too short
